Molly Fay (Yankey) Thomas Lyon
August 16, 1937- March 15, 2025
Molly Faye (Yankey) Thomas Lyon, age 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 15th, 2025. Molly was born on August 16, 1937, in Spring field, Kentucky to parents Hugh and Alta (Upton) Yankey, the youngest of six children, four girls and two boys. As a young girl, Molly accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the Springfield Baptist Church.
Molly attended public schools in Springfield, Kentucky. She graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1955, and went on to attend Georgetown Baptist College in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Molly entered the work force, working in Bardstown, Kentucky and then Danville, Kentucky. She spent seven years with McKesson and Robbins Wholesale Drug Company in Lexington, Kentucky. During this time, Molly met and married Leon Z. Thomas and became mother to two sons, Thomas “Tommy” Lee Thomas in 1959 and Karl Hugh Thomas in 1965.
In 1967, IMB relocated the family to Austin, Texas, and Molly was a “stay at home mom” until she reentered the work force. Molly gained employment in the Narcotics Service of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Molly worked in the Controlled Substances Registration Section, and later, with law changes, in the newly created Triplicate Prescription Section.
While working at DPS, Molly met and became close friends with BC Lyon, state trooper, later Captain in the Narcotics Service. Molly and BC were married in 1983, and Molly gained three stepsons: Richard, Clifton, and Stephen.
Molly spent her lifetime as a wife, mother, grandmother (Nana) and great-grandmother. Molly lived every moment and had a smile that lit up the world. She will be remembered for her compassion, intelligence, generosity, adventurous spirit, and beauty. She exhibited care and kindness to others, most notably to her immediate family, who adored her.
Molly shared her experiences and beliefs, which made people feel important and loved. With her dark eyes, laughter that came quickly and easily, it was extremely enjoyable to be near her. Molly never forgot her roots and always had a special warm spot in her heart for the Bluegrass State and her family and friends in Kentucky.
Molly was a sports enthusiast who supported the Dallas Cowboys, Kentucky Wildcats (especially basketball), Texas Longhorns, and- because BC was from Waco- the Baylor Bears.
Molly loved to cook, enjoyed line dance classes as the Lamar Senior Activity Center, where she also enjoyed playing Bingo and Bunco. Molly loved to crochet, knit, and quilt. She enjoyed exercising at the Gus Garcia Center and taking her 103-year-old friend Leoda Anderson out for shopping and lunch.
Molly was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Alta Yankey; brothers Howard and Donald; sisters Helen, Nellie, and Evelyn; and stepdaughter Donna Lyon.
Left to honor Molly’s memory are her loving husband BC Lyon; sons Tommy Thomas (Monica) and Karl Thomas; Stepsons Richard Lyon (Robyn), Clifton Lyon, and Stephen Lyon (Tabatha); granddaughter Heather Knetsch (Eric); grandsons Clinton Thomas and Dalton Thomas; and Great-Grandsons Zane and Jett.
Together Molly and BC had five sons, fifteen grandchildren and step grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren and step grandchildren.
Funeral services for Molly will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home and Cemetery in 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
A visitation period will begin at 11 AM, and the service will begin at 1 PM, with a burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Molly loved flowers, but in lieu of flowers, we request that contributions be made to the DPS Historical Museum, Diabetes Association, or to a charity of your choice, in her memory and honor.
