Round Rock - Age 95, peacefully passed away on January 20, 2021 at her assisted living residence in Round Rock. She was born on December 22, 1925, and raised in Austin, the only child of Dick and Lola Whitworth. In her early years, her father moved the family around quite a bit as he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad in the winter and played professional baseball in the summers, but she has always called Austin home. She and her mother would go with her dad in the spring to wherever he was playing baseball and return to Austin in the fall. She graduated from Austin High School in 1942, and attended Nixon Clay Business School.
Our Mom (Grandmom) was the quintessential example of a life well-lived. She was a devoted wife to her husband Tommy, a busy stay-at-home mom serving as a Den mother, and Brownie and Girl Scout leader, involved in EVERY school activity WHEREVER needed. Later she was a church secretary, then middle school secretary, all while she and Tommy were very active in their neighborhood church. They loved the outdoors, fishing, boating, and camping. After retirement, Nancy was an active volunteer at a local nursing home and library. She pursued her love of sewing and crafting, and canning pickles and jelly was her specialty. She and Tommy lived in the country in Pflugerville for 18 years where they hosted joyous family get-togethers, frequently entertained grandchildren, and held some memorable garage sales. They then moved into Round Rock where they lived until Tommy's death in 2010. During that time, they were very active in First United Methodist Church, Round Rock, where Nancy continued her passion for crafts and sewing for multiple charitable causes. In early 2011, Nancy moved to an independent living community in Round Rock where she stayed busy with community activities and sewing for charities; she transitioned to Brookdale Round Rock Assisted Living in January, 2020.
Before Tommy's death, he told Nancy they would be together again and to take comfort in this refrain from "The Far Side Banks of Jordan":
I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming, I will rise up with the shout
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her son Randy, and her beloved husband Tommy after 64 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Kathy Cox (John) and Dan Mueller (Bonnie). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mistie Hall (Derek), Matthew Mueller (Jennifer), Clay Benson, Lauren Dechiro (Jon), and Kymberly Mueller; as well as, nine great-grandchildren.
Our family is deeply grateful to the extraordinary staff at Brookdale Round Rock and Brookdale Hospice who expertly and compassionately cared for our Mom during the past year.
Later this year, there will be a private graveside service where her ashes will rest beside her beloved Tommy.
