Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nate accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. His family moved to Detroit, Michigan. He attended Detroit Public School System. In 1976, He graduated from Detroit Northeastern High School. Nate Joined the U.S. Air Force September 1976, receiving an honorary discharge in 1990. Nate and Gail met and fell in love (over the phone) prior to ever seeing one another in August, 1975. They finally got to meet each other in person on September 5, 1975. Nate then asked Gail to share his life and that's when their story began.
Nate and Gail were joined in Holy matrimony August 25, 1979. To this union were born one son; Nathaniel Young III, and two daughters; Ebony N. Young, and Nakisha R.Young-Corona Morris. The Young's lived a very adventurous life. Their daughters were both born in the Netherlands. At birth, their daughter Ebony was diagnosed with autism and as a result from doctor orders, Nate was assigned to Bergstrom Air Force Base, TX. The family chose to go back to the states that Christmas so that the kids could enjoy family in Detroit. They were given flight tickets for Pan Am Flight 103 and were scheduled to arrive in Detroit, MI on December 21st . A week after receiving their tickets, Nate received short-notice orders to leave the Netherlands in October. The Young's were devastated. They weren't prepared to leave that soon and weren't able to make it into Detroit for Christmas. Well, if you google December 21, 1988 PanAM flight 103, you will see that God spared the Young's a real disaster. That's right, the tragic flight disaster that blew up over Lockerbie, Scotland. After that tragedy, Nate and Gail never questioned God about anything. After leaving the Air Force, Nate attended Austin Community College (ACC) and University of Texas (U.T) to pursue a degree in Early Child hood development. In 1993, Nate was employed with the U.S Postal Service (USPS) Austin P&DC where he remained employed until his passing. Nate always had a passion to know more about our history as a people. In his quest for identity, Nate learned his history was explained in the bible and learned that he was a Hebrew Israelite; a direct descendant of Abraham and Jacob whose name was changed to Israel. Of the line of Jacob, were 12 sons who each represented 12 tribes. Of the 12 tribes, Nate belonged to the tribe of Judah.
Growing up in Detroit, Nate and Gail had a love for all types of music especially jazz. Some of Nate's favorite artists included Bobby McFerrin, AI Jarreau, Michael Franks, George Benson, Norman Brown and Foreplay to name a few.
While in the Air Force as a teenager, Nate began playing the bass guitar. About 10 years ago, Nate began playing the bass again as a hobby. Falling in love with the sound of the bass, he began to pattern his style after such artists as Marcus Miller, Nathan East and Wayman Tisdale. Nate spent hours playing and grooving to sounds that took him to another place.
In 2013, Nate joined the "Detroit Bass Players", who are a group of bass playing professional artists and
enthusiasts that come together annually in Detroit for jam sessions. Nate attended the 2014 "Detroit Bass Day" where he was given the honorary opportunity to attend the roundtable. There, he was interviewed in the "Bass Mint", which is literally a basement where bassists sit and converse about the art of the 'Bass'.
Nate never met a stranger. Anyone he came in contact with, he left that person with a positive thought.
He was preceded in death by his father Nathaniel Young Sr., devoted Step-Father Gene Ross and a sweet, sweet sister-in-law Charlene Young.
