He came into this world in 1940 as a first generation American to Scottish parents in Mars township Pennsylvania. His father was the town doctor. He was the much beloved baby brother to two sisters.
He graduated early from high school (despite severe dyslexia) & became a Marine. His first assignment in Force Recon in Cambodia. He did several tours of duty in Vietnam before becoming critically injured. He recovered for nearly a year at Bethesda & then worked at the White House providing security for President Kennedy.
He became a pharmacist doing that for several years, eventually becoming bored getting a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He worked many years as a commercial property manager, handling all aspects of engineering including construction, maintenance, hvac, fire suppression systems, elevators & everything else.
He developed Parkinsons disease over the past 5 years & managed it like the warrior he is. Going to boxing, doing PT/OT, & maximizing his abilities to enjoy the highest quality of life he could manage. He was as tough as he was kind.
He was a lifelong admirer of animals of every type, dogs especially favored. He supported Fossil Rim Wildlife Preserve. It was one of his favorite places on earth and we spent a wonderful 85th birthday there meeting all the animals. He was a big supporter of Greyhound Pets of America & adopted many, many dogs of all kinds. He was the quintessential Santa for generations of kids.
He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, & friend. He will be so deeply missed. Everyone who was loved by him knew him as a protector, a caregiver, & a cheerleader. He loved a pun, a limerick or a joke. He never met a stranger.
We believe he would like to be remembered with joy in your heart; see him in a Hawaiian shirt, pink fedora & a twinkle in his blue eyes.
