Norine Maye Dinn Majcher passed away September 14, 2012. She was born October 11, 1926, and was the twin sister of Josephine Faye Dinn Grimes. She was raised in Edinburgh, Indiana, the youngest of 8 children. Her parents were Frank and Anna Dinn. During World War II, she was in the USO, and loved dancing and swing music. She worked at Camp Atterbury, Indiana with incoming and outgoing soldiers from 1944-46. Norine married Walter James Majcher in 1946, and managed beautifully as a civil service military wife moving thirty-four times and successfully raising four children, Mike, Patty, Kathleen and Dineen.
Norine was a kind and caring person for whom family was extremely important. She was also a wonderful character. She was proud of her Irish heritage, and even traveled to Ireland and kissed the Blarney Stone. She married a man with a strong Polish heritage and melded the two into the life of her family. She cooked Irish nut rolls as well as Polish stuffed cabbage with enthusiasm. If there had been a contest for stubborn, she surely would have won the grand prize. She refused throughout her lifetime to learn to drive, and never had a driver’s license. She was a child of the depression, and an ardent conservationist. She always found productive and creative ways to reuse everything. She also raised a family in financially difficult times, and yet managed to keep a tight budget so that she could afford to send her children to private schools enabling them to receive the best possible education in rural Georgia where the public schools were not up to par at that time. Her passions included gardening, all types of needlework, sewing, crafts, cooking, quilting, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She was most proud of the quilts she made with her twin sister. She was also very proud of the fact that she had a green thumb and could grow or rehabilitate virtually any plant.
She is survived by her four children and their families: Michael Dinn Majcher, Patricia Diane Majcher Kuehl, Kathleen Marie Majcher and Dineen Majcher Smith. Michael’s family includes his wife Jane Bartlett; Michael’s son Marc Majcher as well as Marc’s ex-wife Bernie Porter and their daughter Paidia Majcher; Michael’s daughter Kathryn Dinn Majcher and her partner Michelle Prince, and their daughter Imogen Michael Prince. Patty’s family includes her husband, Tom Kuehl, and Patty’s children Marie Diamond and John Majcher; Kathleen’s family includes her children, Nicholas Mollberg, Alex Mollberg and Laura Majcher. Dineen’s family includes her husband Lawrence Smith and their daughter Eleanor Elizabeth Ann Smith. Norine’s only living sibling is her twin sister Josephine Faye Dinn Grimes.
She was loved by many and will be deeply missed. In honor of her legacy, Norine would ask that you do something unexpected and kind for someone else in her memory.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012 with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
