Oscar was born on October 11, 1925 in General Zuazua Mexico, the only child to Catarino and Guadalupe Martinez. Oscar grew up amongst many cousins around this parent’s restaurants. As a young man he enjoyed cars and motorcycles. He went to school at the Albaro Obregon and later when on to study mechanics and machinery design.
At the age of 21 he spotted the love of his life – a beautiful blond green eyed girl at a local plaza. He married Gloria in a day long wedding filled with their family, friends and the entire town. They married on July 27, 1947. They almost celebrated 60 years of marriage, but his lovely wife passed suddenly from cancer at the age of 77.
He and Gloria had seven children:
Gloria Guadalupe Martinez de Davila, husband Victor
Twins: Oscar, deceased wife Rosa and Jose Luis, wife Hannia
Nelly Martinez
Javier Martinez, wife Eva
Cesar Martinez wife Virginia
Edith Martinez Gray husband Michael
He was also blessed with:
8 Grandchildren
11 Great Grandchildren
2 Great Great Grandchildren
As a young family when he and Gloria only had 5 children living in Monterrey they enjoyed going back to Gloria’s parents’ rancho to spend time with their family. Oscar enjoyed hunting quall and deer. On occasion he had to hunt for wild bears when they threatened the ranch livestock. On Sunday’s Oscar would load the family into their sedan for outings.
During his career at Nagel Manufacturing he took great pride in his work and the legacy of the machinery he designed to manufacture hangers, spool wiring, fencing and many other steel products. He was recognized for his ingenious design capabilities – in an era before computers. He always said, “it’s all in my head.”
He retired at the age of 72, but loved his work and continued to consult until the age of 75. He and Gloria enjoyed their home here in River Oaks immensely and maintained a beautifully landscaped yard.
He lived as he wanted to live, working very hard to provide for his family and always displaying his incredible love for his wife. He carried on 9 years after her death missing her every minute and waiting for their day when they would be reunited in GOD’s kingdom. In the end Gloria came to him to let him know it was his time now. Oscar woke from a deep sleep a few days before his passing to ask his son, Jose Luis and wife Hannia to get priest so he could confess and have his last writes. He passed soundly in his sleep two days later.
He will be forever remembered.
GOD Bless the surviving Martinez Family
