Patrick J. McGovern

He attended Waterloo East High School, and after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Pat attended the University of Iowa, and he remained an avid Hawkeye fan for the remainder of his life. Pat was a member of many organizations, including Rotary.

He lived in Iowa until he relocated to Austin, Texas in 1985. He began his career in insurance, and then worked for several decades as a real estate broker. For the past twenty-five years he was the owner of Capital Area Investments in Austin, Texas.

Pat is survived by Mary, his wife of 58 years; and their three children, Hugh McGovern and his wife, Anita; Melissa Prill and her husband, Fred; and Patrick McGovern. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sara Johnson, Nicole McGovern, Josh McGovern, Joe McGovern, and Olivia Prill; along with four great-grandsons, Aiden, Aaron, Ethan, and Adam.

The family wishes to thank the devoted caregivers of University Villages Memory Care Facility.

Memorial services celebrating Pat’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, in Pflugerville, Texas.

Urn placement with military honors will take place in Exira, Iowa, at a date to be decided.
