

Randall (Randy) Jay Ayers was born on March 12, 1961, in Roswell, New Mexico and died after a short illness in Austin Texas on March 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father Robert J. Ayers and brother Donald Ayers. Randy is survived by his wife Barbara Ayers, his son John R. Ayers and his wife Haley, his grandchildren Jace Ayers and Kyra Ayers. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Ayers, brother Robert S. Ayers and wife Cindy and sister Lisa Ferguson and husband Jerry, and brother-in-law Steve Oliver and wife Gail.
Randy grew up in Portales, NM and attended Portales High School. He graduated summa cum laude from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelors in Business Administration. Following graduation, he moved to Houston and went to work for Exxon. During this time, he became a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. Later he attended South Texas College of Law where he was Editor in Chief of the Law Review and graduated with a Juris Doctorate. Following graduation, he went to work for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. He later established his own law practice focusing on Criminal Law and retired in early 2019. Randy was a member of the Texas Bar Association and the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association.
Randy was a beloved husband, a loving father and devoted grandfather. Randy and his grandson Jace were best buddies, with Jace calling him Rafe! Randy and Barbara moved to Leander Texas in May of 2022 to be close to Jace. Randy enjoyed traveling, collecting wine, and doing crossword puzzles. He and Barbara travelled the world together, with some of his favorite countries being England, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Singapore. They were also avid cruisers, with some of his favorite cruises being Transatlantic cruises, Alaska, the Mediterranean, and the Baltic.
Randy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was a kind and caring man who loved his family and the great joy of his life was spending time with them. May God bless him and may he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Randy’s name to Eastern New Mexico Scholarship Fund or the American Heart Association.
A visitation will be held at Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home and Cemetery at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.
