

He graduated from Bradford Area High School in 1965. Ray served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. Following his time in the service, he obtained certifications in Weatherization, Home Inspection, and Energy Auditing. He was very active in the local community, volunteering for the Round Rock Housing Authority, Round Rock Economic Development Committee, and Round Rock Ethics Commission. Ray held various sales positions and was currently employed by Lone Star Overnight in Austin, Texas.
He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Round Rock, TX. Ray had a personal relationship with the Lord, which was manifested in the way he led his life and treated all people. Ray was an avid reader and an amazing chef, and also enjoyed astronomy and nature. He was passionate about his family as well as his dog Maddie. He would always go above and beyond to show his love. In his lifetime, Ray never met a stranger, possessing genuine love and consideration for people and always managing to maintain a smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents Grant Shannon and Dorothy Deloe, and brother Gregory Shannon. He is survived by his wife Wanda Shannon of Georgetown; son Erhin Shannon (Amy Grimes) of Round Rock, TX, and daughter Gwen (Travis) Schirpik of Leander, TX; three adored grandchildren (Grayson Schirpik, Mary Schirpik, and Poppy Schirpik of Leander, TX; and brother James Shannon (Marsha) of Bradford, PA.
A visitation will be held at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29th from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Following the visitation will be a Memorial Service on Friday, September 30th at 11:00am at King of Kings Lutheran Church at 17000 Smyers Lane in Round Rock, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) (or to a Military organization of your choice) would be appreciated.
