

Richard Edward “Dick” Getz of Pflugerville, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 93. He was born on October 3, 1931, in Teaneck, New Jersey to Edward Adolf Getz and Edna Getz.
Dick served in the United States Marine Corps in the early 1950’s as a drill sergeant and was discharged as a Lieutenant. He graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska (now Concordia University, Nebraska) with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1959.
Dick taught religion and history at Detroit Lutheran High School West for one year before being appointed instructor of social studies and high school librarian at Concordia Lutheran High School, in Seward, Nebraska. In 1965 he began serving half-time as high school librarian and half-time as college Librarian at Concordia Teachers College (on the same campus). In 1967 Dick was called as assistant professor and appointed as head librarian at Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, Texas (now Concordia University, Texas). In 1971 he began his work at the Texas State Library as the technical services department manager, cataloger, and field consultant, retiring in the mid-1990’s.
He was actively involved in Hope Lutheran Church, Leander, Texas and enjoyed computers, his flight simulator, history documentaries, gardening, shopping, and savoring sweet treats.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Getz and Edna Getz, his beloved grandmother who raised him Anna Getz, and his brothers Douglas and Peter.
Dick is survived by his wife, Donna Getz, her children David Henderson, Paul (Debbie) Henderson, Elizabeth Henderson, and Naomi (Max) Goller, five grandchildren Eric Henderson, Kyle Patterson, Michael Henderson, Ryan Patterson, and Sarah Henderson, son David Getz, and the extended Getz family.
Dick tended to be rather quiet in a crowd but always had a great sense of humor and was very kind.
The family would like to thank the staff at Round Rock Assisted Living and Enhabit Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Dick in his final days. Special thanks go to long-time neighbors and caring friends Tom and Becky Menke.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Hope Lutheran Church, 2940 County Road 175, Leander, Texas on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11am. Visitation with the family will begin at 10am.
Interment to follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, Texas at 1pm.
