Born in Austin, Texas on February 27, 1943, Richard Lloyd Jamison was the third son of Richard Everett Jamison and Peggy Gayle Lloyd. Richard grew up in San Antonio, Texas where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School. In the summer of 1964, as an Army Reservist, he met the love of his life, Barbara Gail Jamison. He liked to say that Fireworks exploded in the sky the night of their first kiss on his parents’ balcony, which was the truth because that first kiss was on the Fourth of July. They married five months later, on December 5, 1964. Richard attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in statistics, as he and Barbara started their young family. He loved golf, built tiny wooden putters for his little daughters, and took them out on the greens at Lions Municipal Golf Course on Enfield Rd to putt and collect stray balls. He also loved college football and was a die-hard Horns fan until his daughter Margaret went to A&M, when he begrudgingly started rooting for the enemy. All but one of Richard and Barbara’s boys were girls: Melisa, Monica, Melanie, Margaret, Mamie, and their actual boy, Richard Everett. He and Barbara raised a large and loving family, with all their children happily married and with 30 grandchildren. He was hero to all of his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and their spouses, and six great-grandchildren.
Richard and Barbara were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served three missions for the church: in the El Paso, TX mission, the San Jose Temple mission in Costa Rica, and as Employment Specialists at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Round Rock. In all three roles, he could do what he did best, loving, welcoming, and inviting people to come unto Christ. He served as Bishop of the Wells Branch and Heatherwilde Wards for six years. In that calling, he was the true example of Jesus Christ in the boundless and unfettered love he demonstrated to everyone within his reach. He truly wore out his life in service of his God. Richard lived one of the most exemplary lives of anyone who has lived on this earth, and he will be missed terribly by his family and all who know him. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and by his brothers Gordon Everett and Joe Frank Jamison. Thinking of their reunion as he passed to the other side is a cause for us all to rejoice.
