Roberta was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 16th, 1952 to James C. Houston and Helen Staudt. From an early age she loved photography and she took photographs for the school paper during her time at Thomas Edison High School in San Antonio. In 1970 she married Patrick Robert "Bob" Young and in 1980 their son Andrew Cleburne Young was born. The couple divorced in 1982.
After the divorce, Roberta discovered a love for real estate management. In 1992 she earned an associates degree in real estate management from San Antonio College and in 1993 she earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio followed by a masters degree in education from the same institution in 1997. Roberta taught real estate management at San Antonio College, a passion she continued to pursue for the rest of her life. In 1996 Roberta met Charley Stateczny and began a relationship that would eventually lead to their marriage in 2008. Her son Andrew married Laine Elisabeth Hamilton in 2001 and after the birth of their daughter Kaitlyn Brianne Young in 2003, Roberta and Charley moved to Austin to be closer to them.
After moving to Austin she worked for T. Stacy and Associates (now CapRidge Partners) where she continued to work until her death. Among her many hobbies, Roberta loved collecting things such as playing cards, music boxes, apple dishes, bears, and clocks. She also loved photography, watching classic movies, and spending time in nature. She was a strong supporter of the Paramount Theatre in Austin where she watched many classic movies. She also spent the last few years of her life visiting Texas State Parks with Charley in their RV. Shortly before her death she and Charley purchased land in Goldthwaite, Texas, where they had planned to build a home and retire.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, James Cleburne Houston and Helen Ruth Staudt Smyer, her step-parents, Mary Mackey Houston and George Hardeman Smyer, and her first husband, Patrick Robert Young.
