Rosie Mae Lockhart was born on May 15, 1926 in Fort Worth, Texas to Levi and Ada Clay. She graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 1953. Rosie also had the opportunity to attend Wiley Extension College and Trimble Technical School recognized for her skills in typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. In 1954, Rosie was wed to Amos W. Wilson, Jr. in Weatherford, Texas. This bond endured until Amos’ passing, September 1978.
Rosie’s professional career was highlighted by working as a secretary and later administrative assistant positions throughout the Fort Worth Independent School District where she retired in 1973, after 10 years of service. She took up her second carrier with Woodbine Development of Fort Worth in 1980 and worked as secretary and office manager for an additional 10 years, retiring in 1990. Rosie worked in the construction division on the Texas / Hyatt Hotel and Continental Plaza projects in downtown Fort Worth. Rosie, throughout her life worked other jobs from publishing companies, drug stores in her younger days, to her final employment as a bus driver for the Round Rock School District.
Rosie’s religious journey spans her entire life, active in all phases of church life, choir, evangelism, youth organization, and government. Historic Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fort Worth was her home, spending over 53 years building in faith and works. Rosie served on the Steward Board, Sunday School organization, and YPD, she also was very active in the local and regional church conferences. Rosie continued her journey moving from Historic Allen to Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church, continuing her work on the Steward Board and youth departments. In 1998 Rosie moved to Pflugerville, Texas to be closer to her son Michael, joining Metropolitan A.M.E. Church and finally Vision Of Hope A.M.E. Church, again active in church lay activities.
On Sunday, March 31, 2019, early morning, Rosie passed peacefully and began her ride home to glory. Rosie was preceded by her husband Amos, brothers Leaman, Lawrence, and Sylvester, sister Moszel. She leaves to mourn her immediate family in Pflugerville, along with other family members in Texas, Kansas, Utah, and California, Rosie also leaves scores of grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Vision of Hope A.M.E. Church in Austin, Texas with a funeral service immediately following beginning at 2:00 p.m.
