

Captain Samuel Owen Hawkins, 67, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away unexpectedly of heart complications on July 23, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on November 18, 1949. Sam graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The University of Delaware.
Sam was married to Gayle Hawkins on June 24, 1972. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 until 1975, followed by a forty year career in sales, auditing, and accounting with companies including Kerr Glass Manufacturing, Firestone Tire Company, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and Barton Creek Resort.
Sam volunteered for and served on the Board of Directors for HIREDTexas Job Club, an organization dedicated to helping job seekers looking for career opportunities in Central Texas. Over the years his hobbies and interests included skydiving, building and refinishing furniture, golf, home renovation projects, auto repair, music, and cooking. He also loved spending time with his wife, two children, and three grandchildren. Sam was Gayle’s biggest supporter, cheerleader, and fan at every one of her triathlons and races.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Gayle (of Round Rock), his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Brent Bregenzer, his son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Kara Hawkins, and his adoring grandchildren, Everett Bregenzer, Finley Hawkins, and Sawyer Hawkins (all of Houston). He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Mary Hawkins (of Marietta, Georgia).
Family and friends joined in a celebration of his life on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.
