Shirline Welch Patterson, 86, of Jarrell, Texas, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2024. Shirline was born in Uvalde County Texas on November 23, 1937 and grew up with her 2 brothers and 6 sisters on their family ranch in Concan, Texas. She attended and graduated in the Sabinal, Texas school district. Shirline worked in the Uvalde County Clerk office in the 1960s. She then raised her family and later was employed at the Austin State Hospital for 22 years until she retired in 1997. She was a loving wife, dedicated and loving mother, and a sweet loving grandmother and great-grandmother to many. Grandmothers make the world a little kinder, a little softer, and a little better. She did that very well. She loved reading, gardening, and playing the penny slot machines and bingo when she had the opportunity. Shirline was also known to have a little crush on Elvis in her younger days. She loved cooking and loved time spent hosting family gatherings. She was loved by all and her gentle and loving spirit will be greatly missed. She lived life well, even when life was challenging. A poem by Vivian Green best said how she lived. “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Charles Wesley Patterson, her father, Art Welch, mother, Mary Elizabeth (Lizzy) Haynes Welch, brother Art (Tinker) Welch, and sister Geraldine Welch.
She is survived by three children and four step-children who she all loved dearly. Gayline Hoermann (Lloyd) of Jarrell, TX, Tanya Green (Ross) of Schwertner, TX, Monica DeCoux (Jeff) of Lakeway, TX, Patsy Patterson of Round Rock, TX, Charles Patterson of Canyon Lake, TX, Terrie Mize (Bill) of Weslaco, TX, and James Patterson (Liz) of Pflugerville, TX. She had 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren that she adored. She is also survived by one brother and 5 sisters who she loved and always enjoyed spending time with.
Honoring their grandmother as pall-bearers will be Jason Hoermann, Matt Bryan, Ethan DeCoux, Grant DeCoux, Roger Patterson, Jeff Patterson, and Jarrod Mize.
Services and visitation will be held at 12 noon, August 19, 2024 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX.
