Susan Tran was born on October 11, 1942, in Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam. Together with her 2 sons, Michael and Binh, after several unsuccessful attempts, they eventually escaped to Thailand via a small fishing boat of 48 people and stayed in the regufee camp for 2 years. They finally reunited with her 2 daughers, Diana and Linh, here in Austin, just in time for Diana’s high school graduation in 1984.Susan was a very hard-working and caring mom. She raised all 4 children by herself and proudly saw them graduated from college. In 1988, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. Despite this heart-breaking news, her faith in God did not diminish but grew ever stronger. She was truly blessed in the remaining 20 years of her life, and that is considered to be very long for one to be in dialysis.Susan loved to sing, cook, travel and work. She would share her meager social security income with those less fortunate than her, such as the poor, the abandoned children, and the handicapped. She had a generous and compassionate heart. She was eager to go to church while her health was able. She always thanked God for every meal that she had and every day that she was still alive.Susan has been blessed to see all her children have a family. She leaves behind Linh’s husband, Cong; Michael’s wife, Mary; and Binh’s wife, Trinh. She also was the proud grandmother to 4 beautiful grandchildren: Jennifer, Thomas, Ethan, and Celine. Though her family all thought it was time for her to depart around Thanksgiving of 2007, with her diminishing strength and unyielding determination, she was able to experience the final Christmas reunion with loved ones. And yet, she still persevered, so that she can see her first great-granddaughter, Eiyanna, being born on January 2, 2008. Susan was truly a persistent fighter until January 6, 2008 when complications grew. On February 6, 2008, Chinese New Year Eve, God and Susan agreed that she has endured enough and that her wishes have been fulfilled. It was a great blessing from God that her ailment has ended and that she can now rest peacefully, witnessing her children succeed in life, seeing her grandchildren grow and her first great-grandchild being born. Our Mom is now starting her eternal new life with God in heaven, where there’s no pain and suffering, but only peace, joy and happiness.Arrangements were made under the direction of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 14501 N IH 35, Pflugerville, TX.
