In 1952, he joined the army and served during the Korean War. He then worked in the oil fields till 1957 when he joined the Department of Public Safety. He was a Highway Patrolman for many years and then became an Auto Theft Investigator. He worked for the DPS till 1990, when he retired after 33 years of service. Sitting around the house did not sit well with Tommy. So, in 1991, he joined the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. He started as a Patrolman and soon became an Auto Theft Investigator. He did so for 12 years and retired in 2003. He spent 45 years as a Police officer. The greatest thing he loved in his life was being a Police Officer.
He met the love of his life, Patsy Ann Wilkens, in 1955, and they were married in 1956. They spent the next 59 plus years in a true love affair.
He was a Deacon, a greeter, and a member of the choir at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
Tommy will be missed by Family Friends for many years to come. He was loved by all he met. AS he would say many times, I have never met a stranger.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; his son, Lonnie; his father, Lester, and mother, Edna; and his brother, David.
Tommy is survived by his son, Keith, and his wife, Laurie; his sister, Ann Jerrell; his grandson, Brian May; his grandson, Clinten May; his wife, Samantha; his great-grandson, Kyle May; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
