Born on February 25, 1936, in Bagabag, Nueva Viscaya, Philippines, Virginia was the third of ten siblings. She met Ephraim Lancero through his sister, Presciosa, while attending nursing school. After graduation and taking time to travel, she returned to Tagum City where she and Ephraim were united in marriage. Together they raised 3 children, Sharon, Reuel, and Jeffrey.
In 1974, Virginia was recruited by Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, New Jersey to work in the mother-baby department amidst a widespread nursing shortage. Separated from her loved ones, she held tight to the notion that living in the United States would one day provide unmatched opportunity for her young family. In 1979, after Virginia received her green card, a petition was made for Ephraim and the kids join her in New Jersey where a reunion became a new home and the beginning of a new chapter, together. Virginia would spend 30+ years serving Riverview Hospital before retiring to Texas where the winters were warmer and family nearby.
Life found Virginia in many different destinations, but her faith accompanied her in every step of her journey. From the joys of birth and new beginnings to the devastation of loss, she trusted the Lord’s plan and His purpose in her greatest happiness and saddest goodbyes. She found community and fellowship in First Baptist Church Red Bank, Riverbend Church and finally First Baptist Church Pflugerville. A profound affection for the members of her Senior Sunday School class at First Baptist Pflugerville was cultivated as they became a social and spiritual center in her later years.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas and Ceferina Estabillo, siblings Ederlina, Prospero, Lyla, Henriette, Ermelinda, Amelia and Cordello, her son Reuel Lancero and her beloved husband Ephraim Lancero.
She is survived by siblings Wagayway Estabillo and Nelce Estabillo, her daughter Sharon Cheshire and Neil Cheshire, son Jeffrey Lancero and Gretchen Lancero and grandchildren Maya, Mason and Ruby Lancero
To have known Virginia, was to witness her dedication to faith, family and friends. Her faith guided her daily routine, her family gave her great purpose, and her friends made this life rich with happiness and belonging. It is through that commitment, through that servitude that we have all become recipients of her kindness and generosity in some capacity. Not because our need was unique, not because we stood out from the crowd, but because we simply were blessed to intersect the path of a giving heart working tirelessly toward a greater good and the promise of eternal life. Experiencing her love was no coincidence, it became her legacy.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 28th, 2025 in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home 14501 N. IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. The funeral will be 10:00 AM in the Walden Room of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, with the committal service to immediately follow in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
