Wallace Edgar Dyer, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020 at his home in Austin, Texas surrounded by his family. Wallace was born on October 30, 1934 in Austin to Walter Clyde and Ida Elizabeth Dyer. He is the older of two sons.
Wallace grew up in South Austin attending Fulmore Jr High and Austin High. He played baseball for the South Austin City League in the early 50’s where he became an All City 1st Baseman. In high school he met the love of his life, Valjean Bryson, whom he married in December, 1954.
Wallace attended the University of Texas for a couple of years while working various jobs. He worked for Insurance Company of North America and John Hancock. Wallace went to work for the I.R.S. in 1965 as a tax examiner. As his potential was recognized and rewarded, Wallace was trained as a Computer Systems Analyst. During his time at I.R.S., Wallace was an officer and Vice President for the local N.T. E. U. He also served as an EEO officer and worked with a national committee in Washington D.C. He retired from the I.R.S. in 1995 and worked with Valjean in her photography business until 2009.
During his career at John Hancock and I.R.S., Wallace played fast pitch softball for their recreational teams. He became a well-known pitcher with the ability to pitch both right and left handed.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially the beloved Texas Longhorns. He attended their football games for many years with his daughter, D’Ann (also a Longhorn fanatic).
He and Valjean traveled with their daughters and family friends (Haynes family) camping at many National Parks across the U.S. Wallace and Valjean also traveled in Europe.
Wallace is predeceased by his parents, wife Valjean and granddaughter, Bryson. He is survived by daughters D’Ann Dyer and Denise Beecroft (Michael), grandchildren Kaitlyn and Charlie Beecroft, brother David Dyer (Mary), Sisters in law Judy Ellis and Cynthia Bryson; along with many loving cousins, niece and nephews.
The family would like to thank Halcyon Home Healthcare for their loving care of Wallace. A visitation will be held Friday April 24th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. A small family graveside service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
