He graduated from Souderton Area High School. Then, received his Bachelors’ degree from La Salle College, and began working for their local newspaper. In 1984, Bill and his wife Beverly moved to Austin, Texas where he worked at the Austin American Statesman for 30 years.
Bill enjoyed Indy car racing every year, since 1984 he would travel to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500. He also enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden, and distributing its produce to the local food bank.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian and his wife, Bev; and is survived by his father, William R. Benner; son, William A. Benner Jr, daughter, Farrah Perrera; brother, Steven G. Benner; sister, Kathy A. Malloy; and other family members.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 7, 2015 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Memorial Chapel. Interment services will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.
