

William "Bill" Paul Del Vecchio, passed away on May 29th, 2022 in Austin, Texas. He was born on May 16, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA to Peter and Raphael Del Vecchio. He is survived by three daughters Dianne Dolieslager, Theresa Del Vecchio-Aycock, and Cara Del Vecchio; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces, and his sister Anne Alioto. His son Bill Del Vecchio and Bobbye Garth, the love of his life, preceded him in death.
Bill attended the public school system in Pittsburgh and was a proud member of the Schenley High School City Football Champs in 1950. He earned a Business Undergraduate Degree at the University of Pittsburgh and a Master’s Degree in Political Science at Boston University. He was commissioned a 2nd LT through ROTC in 1956 and entered active duty that same year. During 28 years of active duty, he served in multiple levels of command and staff positions, initially in the Infantry, and primarily as a Military Tactical Intelligence Officer. His best assignments were with the 4th, 5th, and 9th Infantry Divisions, and as a student at The Command and General Staff College. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal, among others. He was proud to be awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge while serving in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division.
Bill was a Lifetime Member of the Austin Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed years of dancing with his beloved Bobbye Garth and socializing with many friends at several senior dance clubs in Austin. He was forever indebted to his daughters for their love and devotion.
A memorial service honoring Bill Del Vecchio will be conducted at Camp Mabry Chapel in Austin on Thursday, June 9th at 2 PM with a burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to follow at a later date.
