Born on April 1, 1948, in San Jose, California, Alex grew up to become a devoted family man, a faithful friend, and a beloved presence in everylife he touched. He was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School and Phoenix College and proudly served his community through his longtime career at the Arizona Department of Transportation. Known for his work ethic and reliability, Alex took great pride in his contributions and in building a life rooted in service and commitment.
Alex’s passion for basketball began early—he was a standout player at St. Mary’s High School, where his talent on the court was matched only by his enthusiasm for the game. That love never faded. He was a die-hard Phoenix Suns fan, watching games with intensity and passion, riding every high and low with the team. Every loss felt personal because to Alex, sports— like life—were about loyalty and heart.
Alex wasn’t only about sports—he was also the music man of the family. A true collector of sounds,he had a deep love for oldies music and took pride in building playlists and mixtapes for everyone he loved. Whether it was a road trip cassette or the perfect soundtrack for a backyard BBQ, Alex was the “unofficial” family DJ—his music set the mood, sparked memories, and brought people together.
That love of rhythm started early too—in high school, Alex never missed a dance. He was known for his moves, his charm, and the joy he brought to the dance floor. Later in life, that same spirit lived on in family gatherings where music and laughter filled the room. He didn’t just love music—he lived it.
Alex was also a man who valued connection. As a dedicated member of El Grupo, he made time every month to gather, support, and stay connected with his community. Through these meetings and friendships, he fostered bonds that lasted decades. His faith was another central part of his life— he was a proud and active parishioner at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, where he found peace, purpose, and a spiritual family.
Above all, family was the heart of Alex’s world. He was a loving husband to Dolores Navarro, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Mary Navarro, Angela Madrid, and Alex C. Navarro. His siblings, Elizabeth Navarro and Joe Navarro, shared in many of those special moments and memories through the years.
Alex took immense pride in his role as “Grandpa” to his grandchildren: Andrea Piper, Jake Martinez, Adrian Navarro, Josh Martinez, Sabrina Carrasco, Victoria Navarro, Isaac Carrasco, Alexander Navarro, Aleena Navarro, Vincent Madrid, and Mia Madrid. His face lit up whenever they entered the room.
His love and guidance will continue to echo through his great-grandchildren: Alyvia Ramirez, Elio Piper, Jeremiah Ramirez, Ava Carrasco, Edwin Piper, and Elijah Ramirez—each one carrying forward a piece of his legacy.
To know Alex was to feel accepted, seen, and appreciated. He became a friend to everyone he met—always ready with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. His easy going nature, generous spirit, and unwavering loyalty made him the kind of person people were drawn to. Whether you met him once or had him in your life for decades, you remembered Alex—because he made sure to remember you.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Alex’s memory to St. Helen’s Parish. Alex lived life with heart, rhythm, and love—and that’s exactly how he’ll be remembered. His presence may no longer fill a room, but his spirit, stories, and music will live on forever in the hearts of those he loved.
