Alfred H. "Pete" Nelson, 77, born June 6, 1933 in Mobridge, South Dakota, died peacefully on June 3, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 where he met and married his wife, Gloria, in 1956. At the time of his death, they had been married 54 years. They moved to Phoenix in 1961. He worked for Western Electric and AT&T, retiring after 28 years of service. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, his children Tara (Anthony) Araza, Todd Nelson & Scott (Ivana) Nelson. Also, five grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsay, Nicholas, Anya and Maya. He is also survived by his brother, Loren (Delores), his sister, Geraldine Moser, and many nieces and nephews. Pete took great pleasure in his volunteer work. He spent quite a few years with the Grandview Neighborhood Assn. and twelve plus years with the Phoenix Police Dept. as a Motor Assist. A viewing and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 10th between 5:00-8:00 PM at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix. A private family burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery, 48th St. & Oak in Phoenix.
