Mom is survived by Son Leonard and Daughters with their Husbands: Leticia & Beno, Irene & David, Gina & Douglas. Grandchildren and Spouses: Anthony & Hayley, Jared & Rachele, Katherine & Jesse, Gabriela & Eric, Garrett, Rachel, and Christopher. Great Grandchildren: Remi, Harper, Mattie, Sadie, Elizabeth, James, Anne, Millie, & Piper and 2 Blessed Bundles to come. With a Brother-in-Law Anthony & Ruth and Sisters-in-Laws Marion, and Theda and many Nephews and Nieces, and their families, she has been surrounded by a large family and incredibly Blessed.
Anna was predeceased by her Husband Nicholas, her Sister Frances & Louie, Brothers: Joe, Raymond & Sarah, Sam & Dolores, Brother-in-Law Guy, Sister-in-Law Carmel & Frankie, Rose & Gene. We Believe they are together again with our Heavenly Father and all our Families before us.
Anna was born & raised in Nelson, Arizona, a town even Google itself is unaware of. In the late 1930’s, her parents, Sister & 3 Brothers packed up and moved to California where in the coming years she met the love of her life Nicholas, married November 8, 1958, and immediately started their beautiful family of six. In 1966 Lockheed transferred our Father to Phoenix to work at Luke Air Force Base where the 55 year Griswold Chapter began.
As a Stay-at-Home Mother in the 70’s, she was busy with friends as we all went to school all day, an especially joyous day when the youngest went to Kindergarten a year early. We enjoyed many neighborhood parties, groovy hand-me-downs and flared clothes. The 1980’s she found a new Love and her spiritual journey led her to a deeper devotion in Christ, in which Mom & Dad found a joyous and robust fellowship as a part of Gospel Echoes Church and then later Covenant of Grace Church. There she and Dad began their new life in the love and worship of Christ. Anna was especially graced with the gift of hospitality, always opened to those in need and never turning anyone away. Mom walked the walk and her life was a great example of it.
After Dad passed away in 1999, Mom devoted her time to all her Grandkids that she had been Blessed with in Texas and now in Phoenix. There isn’t a Grandchild that Mom has not smothered in Love and Shared the Lord with. She had been Blessed to have her son Leonard home with her and so like our Father before us, Leonard got Mom involved in any and all Sports. Every Cardinal game meant BBQs and lots of food and screaming at the television. Talk about arm chair quarterbacking! Mom enjoyed all the games even though she couldn’t hear a word of it. Closed Captioned was a part of every Western show, Andy Griffin, Gunsmoke, Highway to Heaven, Hallmark Movies, News, Price is Right, and of course Polkas! How she loved to watch people dance and giggled when Leonard or one of her Son-In-Loves, would dance with her.
Our dear Mother, Anna lived her life with a genuine vivaciousness in everything she approached. She loved her family near and far with a passion and always tried to guide her children to envision the things of life that truly mattered. For many, many years she served relentlessly at the helm as our Father’s caretaker, through his battle with Alzheimer’s, always seeing to it he was wrapped in honor and dignity. Her love for others was sacrificial and Christlike.
Mom will be greatly missed, as a Best Friend, Advisor, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, but we
are truly Confident in our Faith with Jesus Christ that we will all be together again.
