Arlen Ellwood Larson, age 82 of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on August 3, 2018 at Paradise Valley Living Center, with his loving wife, Loretta, by his side. He was born July 14, 1936, in Danvers, Minnesota, to Arthur and Pearl Larson.
It was on his father’s farm, that Arlen gained his hard work ethic. The Air Force brought him to Luke Air Force Base in 1955, where he worked as a Jet Mechanic for the Thunderbirds until his discharge in 1958. He married the love of his life, Loretta Roberson in 1956, and they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 4th. Arlen later earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1963. He worked at Garrett/AlliedSignal for 35 years as an Engineering Director on the TFE 731. Arlen and Loretta raised 3 sons, David, Keith and Bruce.
Arlen loved his wife, family, and engineering but his greatest love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a lifelong member of Palmcroft Baptist Church. God gave him opportunities to serve in many leadership positions with the church, Arizona Christian University, Southwest Church Connection, and Prescott Pines Christian Camp.
Arlen was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Larson, mother, Pearl Larson, and brother, Wayne Larson. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Larson, children David Larson, Springfield, Oregon; Keith Larson (Jennifer), Scottsdale, Arizona; Bruce Larson (Jennifer), Salt Lake City, Utah; 8 grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Jim) Lindsey; brother, Jennings (Jan) Larson.
As a family we express deep gratitude to Paradise Valley Living Center’s staff, and Southland Hospice, and to Palmcroft church family for all their prayers and support. We are also grateful to Mom who has lovingly cared for Dad through his last years.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 11th, at 10:00 a.m., at Palmcroft Church, 15825 North 35th Avenue, Phoenix. Viewing will be held at the church, prior to the funeral service, from 9:00-9:45 a.m.
