Phoenix, AZ / Athens, Greece – Athanassios Christos Panagiotakopoulos, 90, of Athens, Greece, laid to rest for the final time on December 5, 2021. Athanassios “Thanasi” passed away in the home of his son, Christo, surrounded by his loving family. Thanasi was born September 17, 1931 to Christos and Sotira Panagiotakopoulos in Arachamites, Tripolis Greece. He married the love of his life Athanassia Petropoulos on January 20th, 1958 and was happily wed for 63 wonderful years. Thanasi and Sia raised their two sons (Christo and Sotiri) in Athens, Greece. Thanasi was loved by all those he encountered and may truly have been the closest thing to a living saint. He loved his Greek Orthodox faith and lived it every single day of his life. He supported his church and just about any monastery that needed help. What Thanasi loved most however was his family; watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow, drinking coffee every morning; sports, western movies, walking and also the occasional tequila. Thanasi served in the Greek Army and joined the U.S. and U.N. Forces in the Korean War. After returning, he worked as a plumbing contractor for over 35 years. Thanasi was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings George, Yiannis, and Sotira. Thanasi is survived by his wife, Athanassia (84), his sister Maria (70), his two sons, Christo (63) and Sotiri (59), his daughter-in-law, Connie (58), his grandchildren, Thanasi (Melissa), Alexi (Alexia), Niko and Anna, and his five great grandchildren, Sophia (6), Christo (5), Marco (4), Theo (3) and Evie (1).
