I miss you Gamma. Right now I wish you were here. In this time of insanity in our world and the crazy differences in our family, I wish you were here to give us your wisdom and unconditional love. You were one of my closest friends and I wish you here in the flesh to see Ash and Ember and the amazing people they have become. I wish you could have met Dillon and Shay. I wish you were present to hold my hand through Aaron’s death.  I will love you always and I know our spirits are intertwined now and will be forever.

Although I only got to really know Beth over the last year, in some ways I feel like I've known her much longer.  I loved her sense of humor and the twinkle in her eye when she was teasing.  I loved how she was with my granddaughters.  I am sure that when she got to heaven, the Lord said to her, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Beth Calhoun was such a great and caring soul. Growing up in her neighborhood as a friend of her grandson’s Philip, she and Dick always made you feel welcome in their home.  Having Asperger's Disorder back in the late 70’s and early 80’s which was relatively an unknown disorder at the time does not make you a social butterfly or a very popular person. Most of my friend’s parents or grandparents disliked me. If Beth and Dick did actually disapprove of me, I was none the wiser. They always and I mean ALWAYS made me feel welcome to their home and family. I will always be eternally grateful for the compassion and warmth they provided me in my youth. They never preached their religious beliefs to me, rather they demonstrated day in and day out what I consider to be true Christian to be by example.  I can’t say enough how awesome both the Calhoun’s were. They will truly be missed.

When we were kids her grandson, Philip, and I played Truth or Dare.  As the dare, Philip made me tell Mrs Calhoun that I loved her.  This was impossible because I did not come from a world that people talked this way.  I thought Mrs Calhoun might become angry.  So I cheated, at least according to Philip: “Mrs. Calhoun.  I love you.  Philip made me say it.”  Mrs.  Calhoun:  “That’s okay, Chris.”  But I really did love her….  Because of Mrs Calhoun I even ate green peas.  I was eating at her home, and Philip knows how much I hate vegetables, but thought he was being funny: “You are going to eat peas aren’t you?  Grandma made them special.”  I can still see Mrs Calhoun holding the bowl and looking at me: “Do you want some, Chris?” ME: “Umm – sure.”….  As a teenager Mrs Calhoun surprised me with the book, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein because she saw how much I liked the family copy…  One other memory is a nice guy, from a tough background, named Joe.  Joe usually had a gun and never talked to anyone.  Joe visited one day, and the next thing you know, he and Mrs Calhoun spent hours together talking about the bible….  Beth Calhoun always placed kids ahead of her own needs.  She quietly taught that Christianity was about tolerance and caring of others.

May the Lord keep you close as you grieve the loss of your mother. She was a vital part of our families as she touched us all from one time to another. Our prayers for you and the extended families.

Our condolences to the loved ones and friends of the beloved Beth.. a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend,,, What Beth always brought to our family was a pleasant smile, a soft voice and the sparkle in her eyes,,, She was loving and comfortable meeting anyone along the way,,  She always held our hands in church and smiled as she enjoyed the times she had here with everyone... Her gift of life she gave to her family is a legacy in itself. She was so pleasant, adored her family,.. In the recent months ,, I would take our mother to church, mom and Beth would enjoy the best that later yrs allowed,,,May God Bless this family and keep them safe...  Love Cheryl
