He had an older brother, Gilbert Roland (deceased) and baby sister Marie France (Marsh). Carl was fortunate enough to return to Crisfield twice to spend time with his sister Marie. During the Depression, Carl went to live with his Aunt Kathleen (Kack) and Uncle Ed Bell. He loved them both and his life on the farm with his brother, Gilbert.
He joined the United States Air Force February 2, 1952 during the Korean War. He was sent to France and Germany as a Private jet engine mechanic and exited as a Tech Sergeant. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Eventually he landed at Luke AFB in Glendale, AZ. He remained at Luke AFB as a Civil Service employee working as an Aircraft Civil Engineer and Supervisor where he trained Military personnel from the US and other countries how to repair jet engines of all types. He loved to fly planes. He even volunteered to tow NATO targets. He retired with many Superior Performance Awards, and Commendation Letters. He was honorably discharged in 1987. He made many lifetime friendships there. While in service, he towed targets for NATO. Carl also served two tours in the National Reserve.
He also worked for the State of Arizona as a mechanical engineer servicing and repairing military planes.
Carl was married to Pat Mister in May of 1956 until her death in June of 2006. Together they raised four children, John Shoemaker, R. Renee Shoemaker Hicks (deceased), Carlton Tracy Mister Jr (deceased) and Susy Mister.
He had 5 grandchildren, Arlan Hicks, Jason, Joshua, Jamie and Tamara Mister, nine Great Grandchildren, four Nephews and two nieces.
Everyone that ever knew Carl would tell you he was a hardworking, honest, kind and caring man. He was a great Father, husband and friend. He was skilled in just about anything so he used his talents to help others. He will be missed deeply by all whose life he touched.
