

He was born to Cort and Elsie Smith on August 11, 1921 at his home in the oilfields of central Oklahoma. He was the forth of five siblings and had two brothers and two sisters.
Clarence grew up near Osage Oklahoma and graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1940. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the Army and transferred from the Army Air Corps to the newly formed US Air Force where he became a decorated pilot. He held multiple airplane certifications and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in World War II while flying the B24 Liberator on combat missions. After attending staff college, he was assigned higher levels of responsibilities at multiple bases in the United States. He retired from the US Air Force while stationed at Roswell Air Force Base in New Mexico at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was predeceased by Gwendolyn the love of his life and wife of nearly seventy years, his beloved daughter Patricia Ann and his four siblings.
He leaves behind his son Michael and his wife Karen, his son Tim and his wife Sherry and his daughter Terri and her husband Darrell as well as his companion and friend Dorthy Lisonbee.
Clarence was blessed by eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and many close friends.
Visitation and viewing was held on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 followed by interment with full military honors on Friday, May 4th at Greenwood Memory Lawn in Phoenix, Arizona.
