I miss you Dan...what more can I say.  You would be shaking your head at the world today as everyone's just forgotten to be honest, true and a good person...oh and work like a madman of course!   Keep an eye on all of us we need it my friend.

Just sitting around having supper tonight,  remembering the old CASA days just thought to try to track down our old members and friends, what a shock to learn of Dans sudden passing!!, so late after 2 years ago!!

I met Dan in 2014 at PwC.  Dan immediately made an impression on me.   He was very humble and yet one of the most experienced and knowledgeable subject matter experts in his field.  As I continued to work with Dan, I learned more about his life and his passion (collecting rare and diverse scotch bottles being one of them).  He was a terrific person, a great team player, a mentor to many and became a good friend.  After he left PwC, we kept in touch and I spoke to him several times since.  I was shocked and saddened to learn the news. 
May he rest in peace and his memory will always be with us.

The turnout was grand. Everyone had a marvelous time. We met some awesome folks. Plenty (a serious understatement) of delicious food and drinks. We celebrated a man taken far too soon. One who would have loved this party. He loved entertaining his friends. My message to my friends is this: We don't know how long we will be here. Make the days count. Don't sweat the small stuff. Tell people you love them. Forgive. Use the good china. Dance when your heart desires. Above all, enjoy....the bottom line is "ENJOY". Rest in Peace Dan. Lucie, you are loved by many, so lean on us. EVERYONE...PLEASE go out and be the BEST "you" that you can possibly be. Be honest, fair, kind, generous and loving. Help others to find JOY and laugh. I love you, good night.

Well, today is the day. I am envisioning your house chock full of family and friends there to celebrate the life of Dan this afternoon, with much laughter, and more than a few tears. He has been very much on my mind these last few weeks; I am still finding it difficult to believe he is no longer with us in the physical sense. That said, I am quite sure he will be present today in spirit to oversee the arrangements; Dan always enjoyed entertaining.

I have a lot of Dan memories, and they are all good ones:
The time he let me show Cheby as a novice — and inept! — handler. I’m sure I looked more than a little ridiculous handling that huge Borzoi, but Dan was all for me getting more experience in any way, shape or form, even if it meant his dog went down in flames. (I don’t think Dan ever realized I was the one who put the tribute to Cheby in Borzoi Canada magazine, and that was one of the reasons I did.)

The very first time I heard Dan mention Arizona, and how he had gone to Winslow just so he could say he’d been “standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona” (a line from The Eagle’s “Taking It Easy” for non-aficionados). I loved that, it was … so Dan. 

The show in Montreal where all the men had to wear those hideous orange jackets to be admitted to the dining lounge, and how much fun they all ended up having with it. 

Going out to dinner and watching the waiter leave after he had taken Dan’s order, thinking it was for the entire table. We teased him about that forever, and I still smile when I think of it.

Ahhh, I could go on for some time, but the tears are flowing again so I will finish for now. Enjoy your party big guy.

Dan hired me in October 2016, even after I accidentally hung up on him during the phone interview. He called me right back and said "I think we got disconnected" and after I explained that it was my fault he told me it was not a problem and that these things happen. That was the first moment of so many that he demonstrated kindness, trust and belief that everyone is doing their best. He listened. Dan welcomed my questions, suggestions and solutions. He made time for my "drive-bys" even when he only had 7 minutes before the next meeting. Knock-knock, "Hey Dan, what if.....?" Dan smiled without judgement as he listened to my random short stories. Dan was consistent. There were a handful of times that I "hung in there" when so much seemed to be going wrong. The way Dan  responded to challenging times with  facts and positivity encouraged me to keep going and to apply the same trust and respect to the situation that didn't make much sense to me at the time. Dan was supportive and accepting.  I am thankful for what I learned from Dan and to know he was a light to so many...his family, friends and colleagues;  human beings, humans trying, trusting, working, learning and living. At the start of my interview in 2016, he said no need to to call him Mr. Morrison, to just call him Dan. We miss you Dan. I miss you Dan. Until we meet again.

Still missing my friend…Dan was one of a kind.  It has taken a little time for me to be able to write this memorial as the tears get in the way (even now).  He was a friend, colleague and gentleman and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to have him in my life, if only for a short time.  He was a terrific boss, sounding board and voice of reason in the chaos! :-) I still find myself thinking, “I’ll get Dan’s thoughts on this” only to remember he’s gone and experience another wave of sadness.  
Dan had a positive lasting impact on the folks he met and never had a bad word to say about anyone.  He always portrayed a good mood (even when he wasn’t in one, he could fake it really well!!) and ready to tackle anything that came our way.  He went out of his way to ensure everyone felt included and strived to model the bank’s values; he was intolerant of anyone being or feeling disrespected.  
He was super proud of his jeep; so much so that when he offered to let me drive it I had to decline as I thought, “if I was to have an accident, it would be like hurting his baby!”  :-)  He was happy to be back in Tempe and was excited about the work that he and Lucie had done on the house and especially about his outdoor kitchen and BBQ.  My deepest condolences to Dan’s family and friends; I will always remember Dan with fondness and a smile in my heart.  
Gone too soon, but will not be forgotten.


Daniel, when I first met you I was only 17 years old… I think… I was looking for a place to stay as I was still in school and did not want to stay at the ranch during the weekdays (horse smell and all), you offered me to take your apartment and you told me that you would pay for it as you had signed a lease and was stuck with it anyways, and as you were moving in with my sister,  Great Deal!! 
I said to myself this guy really likes my sister… you even left your 12 speed bike that I could use to go to school, TV and fridge … oh yeah and all the super movie channels (I know you could have cancelled those) when I told my friends about the channels we all agreed: you "loooooved" my sister. 
Then you offered me to move in with you and Lucie under the pretense that I could drive you here and there once in a while…. in your brand new 300ZX (and I managed to dent both your bike and your car) you never gave me shit for any of that !?!?! You made me feel like its just something that happens to anyone… We all moved together at Les jardins du Chateau in Hull then to the « haunted house » on Grande Allee in Aylmer then to your first purchased House in Gatineau, then to Boundary Road in Ontario, (I may have missed one here)... I stayed with you long after you got your drivers license. You made me discover music that I would never admit listening too,  discover the best Nachos in the world ! at Burger Royal …they had to be the best as we ate those at least 3 times a week (extra cheese).
Both you and Lucie helped me with some school projects, job applications and resignation … never did you EVER juge me even when it was obvious (and logical) that you did not agree with my choices … you made me feel like you were looking up to me, when in fact I was always looking up to you. 
thank you for being you! I have no words to properly describe you Dan… you were unique.

I met Dan and Lucie when they relocated to San Francisco, due to Dan's new position, and  their search of a new home.   We became fast friends and would often take excursions to wine country for wine tastings and culinary lunches... one of Lucie's favorite past times!  How he loves to make her happy.

Dan's kind and generous spirit was always present, especially when he's teaching you about his favorite past time, the joys of scotch!  He was the person to first introduce me to scotch.  He had the same sparkle and gleam in his eyes when he's telling you about each scotch's characteristics, likely the same way I probably look when I've scored a new handbag.  We enjoyed many steak and scotch nights, and still I don't think I've even tried 1/3 of his collection.   Steak and scotch will never be the same for me.

He's been in my life for nearly 15 years, but it feels like I've known him my entire life.  Thank you Dan for how much you've enriched my life and many members of my family!  R.I.P.


The early mobile phone was a beautiful thing. Surely the pinnacle of human advancement, taking only one third of the front seat in Lucie and Dan’s vehicle.  It was the talk of the dog show circuit…Dan loved it. 
 
But Dan was driving my little red truck.  Oh, it was almost new, had windows that opened, a bank seat, standard shift and also a radio that included a cassette player for those with eclectic musical tastes. No bells and whistles.  I had two cassette tapes in the truck. After listening to the gentle opening strains of yoko ono’s “Gotta Kill, Gotta Kill” we moved on to Abba Gold.
 
My role on this mission was to deliver two senior dogs to be shown in the veteran class at yet another sighthound specialty.  I, however, had fallen and subsequently diagnosed myself with a concussion.  Dan was drafted as the alternate driver, hiding his relief that I wouldn’t be driving with masterful deception. We headed out later than planned to meet Lucie and my partner, Andre at the afore mentioned specialty in a cow pasture somewhere in southern Ontario, Canada. As Dan announced his decision to “…see what this little truck has got…” I suppressed a grin.  Dan, not so much...and we roared off onto the highway. It took more than seven hours to drive from Ottawa to somewhere west of Hamilton in that little red truck.  But we did arrive in time for the end of the show.

These long ago trips allowed me to meet a thoughtful and considerate man who valued kindness and loyalty above all else.  When speaking with Dan this spring he talked of how content he was with work and with the chance to spend time at home for a change. He was happy.

We will miss Dan for many reasons.  I will miss his insights and comments on the state of everything around.  I will miss his sincerity and honesty.  I will remember Dan for how he loved Lucie, how he loved his friends, and how he loved his life.  In that order.

Dan was a kind and gentle soul, generous to a fault (as my spoiled sister can attest to). Our fondest memory of Dan, was our family trip to Arizona. On our very first day, Dan wanted to show-off his Jeep’s capabilities to Lise and I, wow what an adventure. On our second day, Dan graciously offered to mind the boys so that Lucy could show us around town. No sooner had we turn the corner that Dan threw the boys into his Jeep and went off into the desert. After our day of touring we noticed that Dan and the boys hadn’t yet returned from their excursion, when they finally did, boy did they have a blast! Needless to say, they were left with quite a few stories to tell at the diner table. Memories that are still with them today. We love and miss you Dan. Our thoughts are with you, Lucie and family.

For over a decade I've had the privilege and honor of being a friend of both Dan and Lucie as Dan and I both joined PwC at about the same time in San Francisco, CA many moons ago.   I was a recently divorced Midwesterner quite alone in a large city with a new employer without family or friend within sight.  Dan and Lucie came to my rescue not only with a realtor in mind, but they often fed me and my new found love Andrea hosting us at their home with Dan at the helm of his custom BBQ Grill.   If we weren't washing down Dan's grilled delights with red wine we'd be sipping on Dan's collection of fine whiskeys telling story after story...few of which were remembered the following morning!   Dan was a thoughtful, soft-spoken, generous and sincere man that worked hard, smart and with the utmost integrity.  In my last discussion with Dan I sensed he was excited and happy with his life and career not because of any wealth or fame, but because of the love in his life/wife, the people he touched and the friends that he made.   Until I see you again my friend, I'll toast one for you at every barbecue...

I meet Dan on my first client engagement, shortly after moving to CA.  Dan invited Maria and I to join him and Lucie for the Sausalito Art Festival. Afterwards Dan and Lucie invited us home for dinner, where Dan cooked steaks on the BBQ. After a lot a red wine and scotch, we had to crash in their guest bedroom. It was the beginning of a great friendship, or even more…. We often referred to them as “our Canadian parents”. 

Dan was a workaholic, but he always had time for the people he cared about. During my 19 month secondment in the US, he only took one day off from work, and that was to drive Maria and I to the airport, when we moved back to Denmark. It meant a lot to us.

Dan and I shared a passion for scotch. On one of my visits “home” to SF, I finally managed to convince Dan to open a bottle of scotch, he had been saving for a special occasion. I’m honored I got to be that special occasion.

Thanks for everything, Dan, and rest in peace.

I remember my first interaction with Dan...client in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania.  He saw something in me, even though it was my first year in consulting.  He was passionate about third party risk management and what the framework should be, what needs to happen and how to make it happen.  He was always honest and did what he believed to be the right thing for all situations.  He supported me in many tough situations and I only wish I could thank him one last time.

He adored his dogs and wife and shared fun stories about him and his twin brother over some good Dan Dan noodles for dinner.  He loved to share the fun adventures that Lucie was about to endeavor and it brought him joy that he was able to make her happy that she could travel the world with her friends.  

Dan was an all around good man.  He taught me what I know about third party risk management, believing in doing the right thing, and most of all taught me how to be a consultant. I don’t believe I would be where I am now in my consulting career without the guidance he gave along the way. I wish I had a chance to tell him that, but I think he always knew.


I remember Dan from high school and more so from the Sherbrooke Hussars CC209 Cadet Corps. He was a natural born leader and I will always remember him trying to teach us how to use the C-42 radio sets. My sincerest condolences to Dan's wife and his immediate family as well as to the Morrison Family.  God bless.

I remember drinking Scotch and smoking Cuban cigars with Uncle Dan... pretty sure I was not 19 yet but it was wonderful and fun, always talked to you like you were an adult human and had a valued opinion... hunted down a similar Scotch for most of my adult life, never found anything even close until a year ago when I was in Europe, couldn’t help but think about Dan at the time :-)

The world has lost such a special man, too early.  Always the generous, gracious host, BBQ master, and I’ll never forget him teaching my daughter how to drive.... patient, and very detailed instructor.  Dan always had the best gadgets, a smile, and a good glass of whiskey or scotch... cigars out back with the guys.  

You are missed!

I knew Dan when he played the pipes in our local pipe band, along with his brother Duncan.  Terribly sorry for the loss to your whole family...

At the Taddish Grill in San Francisco early this year. Great meal with Dan in town reminiscing about the days of scotch and salmon when the designated driver was the person with the car keys. A wonderful memory of the last time we were together with Dan. His generosity will always be remembered. Cathryn and Stuart.

Lucie, Mark and I have so very many great memories of Dan. I still recall the evening in December (after one of our Christmas tree parties) that he took his beloved Jeep out to our “back 40” in Ontario. He was gone for quite some time. Darkness had fallen, the majority of our guests had departed, and still no sign of Dan. Then the phone rang. You said, “That will be Dan,” at which comment I burst out laughing, knowing he was in the middle of nowhere — but sure enough, it was Dan! How he obtained cell reception from that location we will never know. When asked where he was, he replied, “I don’t know. That’s why I’m calling.” Off into the dark a small search party went. Dan and company were found, the jeep extricated from its predicament, and much hilarity ensued. It will remain one of our all-time favourite memories of him; I still laugh out loud when I think of it.

He was a kind, gentle, generous man, of whom we were very fond. We will miss him so much.


Lucie I am sorry for your lost .Dan was probably the best friend I ever had or will ever have two weeks ago today Dan sent me a message concerned because there was a tornado in are area and he wanted make sure Sandra and I were safe. Dan and I drank Martel Cognac loved cigars and he would always say the last few inches you always remember the good times,the Christmas Celebration at our house, the B. B .Q's at the old farmhouse in Edwards,the fun times at dog shows . Dan always stood by me even through difficult times never questioned always there.

To my BFF Lucie....how do I remember Dan?...soft spoken, always working, enchanted by the latest technological gadget, single malt scotch and cigars, generous, a great dog handler (although it didn't happen all that often), and one particular night at the farm house in Ontario….we were way out by the old barn, on a dark night, enjoying a bonfire....Dan was far back, on the front porch at the house playing his bagpipes so that the music sneaked it's way through the trees to us, in a mystical way......To you and your greater family..... life will never be the same...….alas it will still be  enriched,  by all the gifts he gave you....sending love and prayers...

Our deepest sympathies and condolences to you, Lucie:  and to all of your collective family and friends.  Dan was a wonderful person who had the biggest heart, and kindest soul, of anyone I have ever known. I remember that he was so happy when he first met you, and he shared with me, so very many happy memories of the two of you over the years.  Remember his humour and wit, and cherish the love you shared together.  He will be missed by so very many of us.

Well, today would be Dan's birthday, and that means a party, and Dan always loved to entertain.  

I remember when he would be drive his little red (pontiac I think 1999-2000) and he barely fit in that car being such a tall man.  But I see he graduated to a taller car!

He had 2 other loves, first and always was Lucie and 2nd the many dogs.  He was a kind, silent man but very present, is what I remember about him and he had a smile that was hard to miss.
