Donald Sabino Guerin Jr. passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend, born on April 13, 1952, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to parents Donald Sabino Guerin Sr. and Billie Marie Guerin. Don spent most of his childhood in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he graduated from Robertson High School in 1970.
Don left Las Vegas to work in the Files and Communication Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. He returned to New Mexico to begin a fulfilling career in the telecommunications industry. He worked for notable companies including Mountain Bell, US West, Qwest, and CenturyLink. Following his retirement, Don continued to seek new opportunities and experiences including working for the United State Census Bureau in 2014.
In addition to his professional achievements, Don was an active supporter of the hot air balloon community in New Mexico. He volunteered for the telephone company-sponsored hot air balloon team, including working at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for many years. On weekends, he and his son would follow balloons as they landed in and around the city as part of the balloon chase team.
Don was a devoted husband to Maggie Guerin, and a loving father to his children, Danielle Guerin (who passed away three years ago), Jason Guerin and fiancée Teresa Martinez, Jonathan Guerin, and Donald Guerin III. He had four cherished grandchildren: Jake, Natalie, Colin, and Kate. He enjoyed picking his grandchildren up from school, attending their extracurricular activities including attending every one of Colin’s basketball games. Don treasured every moment with his family, and his love for them knew no bounds.
Don had many hobbies that brought him joy, including watching sports, video poker, and scratch lottery tickets. He also loved camping, fishing, hunting, and airplanes. His passion for aviation was infectious, and he would spend hours with his children and grandchildren watching planes take off and land at nearby airports. Don was kind and generous, always greeting everyone with a smile and a kind word. He was eager to help friends and neighbors, and he shared everything he had with them. Don lived his life to the fullest and was a fun-loving man, always armed with a joke to make anyone laugh. He also shared his love and affection for his furry family members over the years: Pepper, Sadie, Barkley, Abby, Prescott, and Harley.
Don is now reunited with his beloved daughter Danielle, his father Donald Sr., his father-in-law Filandro Sandoval Sr., brother-in-law Filandro Sandoval Jr. of Anton Chico, New Mexico and nephew Gregory Chavez. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Maggie Guerin, his mother, Billie Marie Guerin, and his sisters Cheryl (Joseph) Griego and Michelle (Anthony) Martinez. He is also survived by his in-laws, including mother-in-law Merlinda Sandoval, sisters-in-law Nadine (Harry) Chavez, Caroline (Rick) Flores, Noel Sandoval (Don Smith), Audrey (Mike) Rogers, Bernadette (Lorenzo) Herrera, and special nephew James (Amber) Munoz and their children, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Don will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was loved and cherished by many. He will remain forever in our hearts.
