Dorothy Marie Morgan, age 92, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, March 5, 2025, at her residence in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on August 13, 1932, to the late William and Verla Franklin in Bowdil (North Lawrence), Ohio. Dorothy married the love of her life Philip L. Morgan on April 10, 1948, and remained together for 73 years until Philip passed away in January 2021. The family moved to Arizona in 1957. Hers was a life well lived, her presence will be dearly missed, and her memory forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived by her five children, Eddie L. Morgan (Nancy), Janis M. Coppock (John), Danny P. Morgan (Zita), Patti A. Felkins, and Vicki L. Szczepkowski (Scott), 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren and of course the rest of her extended family and friends. Dorothy was the ultimate homemaker, a superb cook, a talented seamstress and one who took immense pride in caring for her family. She was adept at making large family and extended family gatherings, picnics, trips to the lake, drives and holiday celebrations memorable by the wonderful dishes, desserts, and specialty foods she created. She was always at her husband’s side and always supported and cherished her children and the generations of grandchildren that followed. Holidays were always extravagant. Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving were important and wonderful gatherings for the Morgan clan. Dorothy was also active with School and Church activities. She often volunteered to bake cookies and assist in field trips for school. She was a deacon for the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, taught Sunday School, helped with bulletins and the like and was a member of a Ladies Church group who met weekly to sew blankets for needy children. Her talent as a seamstress was such that she made beautiful Easter and school dresses and gowns for her children. She also made sure every child, grandchild, great grandchild, and great great grandchild had a homemade quilt or blanket from Grandma.
Services will be at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85022 on March 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A light lunch will be available after the service. It was the hope of Dorothy that donations be made in her memory to Hospice of the Valley; www.hov.org.
