To Edward R. Pottinger, the entire world was a stage. An expressive, optimistic, and uninhibited individual, he was a performer in the theater of life. To everyone around him, he seemed to be eternally happy, and he willingly shared that joy with anyone whose life he touched. For Ed, bringing out the best in any situation was as easy as offering a smile, a witty remark or the twinkle of an eye. And with just those simple gestures, he could evoke the most pleasant of emotions. Ed really mastered the art of living and had great fun in doing so.
The gift of being emotionally expressive and outwardly affectionate made Ed very easy to approach. He tried to help out anyone who was in need. He was always sensitive to other people’s feelings, and that was especially true in family.
Perhaps the reason Ed related so well to children was the fact that he never really completely grew up himself. The ability to be just a “kid at heart” helped him in raising his own children. Ed was blessed with Five Children, Three Sons: Gano, Kim and Delano and Two Daughter's, Paulette and Rebecca. They were also blessed with Ten Grandchildren, Ron, Steve, Jennifer, Justin, Nichole, Justin, Gene, Laura and Thirteen Great grandchildren Ed had the ability to focus his attention on the present moment. If he was spending time with the kids, that’s where all of his attention was directed. Ed's compassionate side prevented him from being a strict disciplinarian, and he could turn just about any situation into a playful, learning experience. He could spend hours entertaining them with fun and creative play. In fact, Ed had a knack for turning tears into laughter, sad faces into smiles.
At work, as in life, Ed was a real “people person” he had a very successful way of dealing effectively with others, and his enthusiasm and energy was often contagious. Ed liked to see himself as a popular person among his coworkers. When dealing with various projects and problems, Ed was an adaptable realist, using his common sense and trusting his experiences and impulses to uncover the correct answer. Ed's talent for being a down to earth thinker, allowed many around him to see Ed as an excellent problem solver. He was the Captain of the bowling team and they received many awards and trophies. His primary occupation was Concrete Dispatcher. He was employed at Union Rock and Material, Phoenix RediMix and Blue Circle Concrete in Phoenix Arizona until he retired.
Ed was an Army veteran. He was stationed stateside. Through his short time of Service, he achieved the rank of Duty Soldier III.
Ed enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He loved playing Cards, watching TV and playing games on the Computer. Ed liked reading e-mails and receiving pictures from family and friends. His favorite pursuits were animals. His also enjoyed Hunting and was especially proud when he broke a record on October 30, 1971 for a Black Bear in Unit 6A while hunting with his Sons in Northern Arizona. He received an Arizona Wildlife Trophies Award (Trophy Points 19 9/16) and had others mounted throughout his home. Ed was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Ed was a lover of animals and cherished his pets, enjoying them almost as much as he enjoyed being around other people. One of Ed's favorites was KoKo, a Chihuahua. They were best friends for 6 years. His family was rounded out by his love for dogs and horses.
Ed passed away on January 16, 2011 at Yavapai Medical Center. Ed passing was sudden due to Pulmonary Embolism. He is survived by his 3 Children, Kim, Rebecca and Delano; His 8 grandchildren Ron, Steve, Jennifer, Justin, Nichole, Jason, Gene, Laura and Thirteen Great Grandchildren. Ed brought joy to all of those around him. He always loved having company over and talking about old times. He loved to have a good time and was an eternal optimist, always looking on the bright side of things. He loved to share his energy, wit, and his zest for all of his activities with his friends and family. Edward R.
