Ellis Davenport Kane, Jr., 77, was born an only child, November 10, 1938, to Ellis and Marguerite Kane, in Detroit, Michigan. He married his high school sweetheart, June, in 1958. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1962, with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He moved his family in 1962 to the Orita Land and Cattle Company in Brawley, California to work as a cowhand. Three years later they moved to Phoenix where he became feedlot manager for E. S. Erwin and Associates. In 1976, he became a Lay Inspector for the Arizona State Meat Inspection. In 1981, he was promoted to the Director of Meat and Poultry Inspection, which he ran until his retirement in 2000. Ellis loved to play the steel guitar and played with several bands in the local country music scene. His other interests included photography, art, symphony, and reading. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June Carol, four children, Wanda Kane, Ellis III, Judy Ferguson, Kelly Kane, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
