Emilio Z. Quiñones, passed away October 11, 2012. Emilio was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 5, 1933. He has lived his entire life in the valley, and worked for the City of Phoenix for 35 years. For those who knew him would attest to his comical, amiable, warm-loving, simple, and happy lifestyle. Friends and family knew him as EZ, which best describes his carefree demeanor. For the last two years, Emilio has battled lung cancer, and has undergone extensive chemotherapy treatment. Despite these rigors taking a toll on his energy, his passion for life, his spirit and sense of humor never subsided. Emilio's interests included fishing, relaxing on his porch, chewing gum, visiting with neighbors, whistling, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, eating menudo, watching westerns, gardening, dancing, singing Ave Maria, telling jokes, and taking care of his beloved wife.
Emilio shared his final hours with his beautiful wife, Helen Quiñones; two incredible daughters, Norma Hernandez and AnaLisa Quiñones; his best friend and son-in-law, Javier Hernandez; the loves of his life, his grandchildren Danielle Olaya, Maria Elena Hassaine, Marisa Hernandez, David Quiñones, Veronica Hernandez, AnaLucia Garza, and Javier M. Hernandez II; great-grandchild, Garbriela Olaya; and family Mary and Teri Castellano, and Lucy Dean Altamirano as they all shared prayers and best memories before he took his last breath.
In spirit, other surviving members include George and Trudi Quinones, Chris Abril, Emily Cruz, Aubrey Quinones, Dominick Luera-Quiñones, Fredy Olaya, Boualem Hassaine, his brother, Valente Quiñones, his sister Ramona Sierra, his brother and sister-in-law Arturo Garcia and Mona Quiñones, and many family members and friends.
We will miss EZ Quiñones dearly, as he was the best husband, father, grandfather, uncle, Godfather, and friend one could imagine. His memories, traditions, and legacy will live on, and in his words, "We're going to let the good times roll".
We will hold services at Immaculate Heart (909 E Washington Phoenix Arizona 85034) on Thursday October 18, 2012. Viewing and Rosary will be from 9 am to 10 am and Mass 10 am to 11 am.
