Ernest Lawson Jr. was born in New Orleans, LA on 9/18/1929 to Ernest Lawson Sr. and Gladys (Verdun) Lawson. He was their only child. As circumstances would have it, Ernest was raised by his father's sister and her husband, Stella and Frank Johnson. He grew up surrounded by many close cousins and attended public school in New Orleans. Ernest was a devoted Christian his entire life. He retired to Phoenix, Arizona after a full 3D-year career in the U.S. Air Force. He was a very proud veteran and spent 23 years as a radiology technician and supervisor at the Carl T. Hayden VA Hospital. Ernie, also, was a very proud family man. He was married 56 years to his devoted wife, Eunice. He managed to raise 5 children while travelling to various parts of the United States and many foreign countries including, Greenland, Germany, Thailand. The Philippine Islands, and England. Ernie loved little children and they loved him back. He was a regular supporter of causes for children like St. Jude's Hospital and Feed the Children. He was also an avid racquetball player opting to play with younger guys that would challenge him. Ernest was called to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Desert Harbor Assisted Living Facility, where he resided for the last 11 months. Preceding Ernest in death were his parents. His aunt and uncle who raised him, his devoted wife, Eunice M. Lawson, and his oldest son, Andre Lawson, who was serving In the U.S. Air Force at the time of his death. Richard ( Mr.T) Thomas
Mr. Ernie and I continued our friendship after his racquetball playing days was over. He would come over to our house and eat BBQ and talk about the good times. When he was at the top of his game he would take us to racquetball school. After the games we would stop at the Roadkill sports bar and eat hot wings and drank beer, and talk about the calls that often decided the outcome of the game. I will always cherries those memories. Ernie and Willie have gone on to a better place, but I know they are smiling at each other and saying we got next game. May God give the Lawson family peace during this time.
