Fred J. Dennis, age 60, of Phoenix, passed away on August 2, 2016. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to Frederick Ronald and Alice Elizabeth Dennis. At the age of 19, Fred joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served his country honorably both on the mainland and abroad, stationed for part of that time in Okinawa, Japan. Fred was a person of diverse interests. He studied martial arts and earned his black belt, but also enjoyed bringing a smile to others with his impersonations, including those of John Wayne, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Fred enjoyed playing and singing the music of Elvis, Willie Nelson and classic country stars. He sang and played the guitar himself. Fred had a passion for cooking gourmet Mexican food. He was known for making the hottest chili ever!
In his 40s the acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior was a major event in his life. It filled him with such great joy and excitement that he brought his mother to the same church to share his experience with her. His brother-in-law and pastor, Allen Davison, baptized them both.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two sisters, Sally (Allen) Davison and Dr. Constance Dennis (Michael McBride); nieces and nephews Robert Morrison, James (Laura) Lavine, Angelique Miller and Elizabeth (Doug) McEwen; and several great nieces and nephews. Fred will be laid to rest with military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
