

George B. Young Sr. was born in Prescott on August 20th, 1915 and died on June 23rd, 2015 at the age of 99. His wife, Chonita Marie died in July 1999. He was the 7th of 8 children of John Charles Young and Mary Contreras and the last surviving sibling. Both parents died early leaving 7 boys and 1 girl to fend for themselves. As a result, George and his brothers learned to be street-wise and helped each other during the recession years while their sister was like a mother to them. George and his brother Bobby worked at the Phoenix produce market. George started driving trucks to and from California at an early age of 13-14. He started as a laborer in the steel foundry of Arizona Iron & Steel Casting Works and quickly advanced to Foundry Foreman and Superintendent while working with National Malleable and Steel Casting Co., Yuba Steel Rolling Mills, Mallin Brothers Foundry and lastly with Newell Scrap Metal and Recycling Co. of Texas. He traveled widely in the USA and abroad in Europe, Asia and South America as a Foundry Consultant and Sales Representative. George loved food, reading and history and had a fantastic memory of historical events and places and had a great gift of storytelling about the past. He is survived by his 5 children; dau. Evelyn and her spouse, Wilfred Fernandes, son George B. Young Jr. and spouse Lucy, dau. Virginia and her spouse Rudy Guglielmo, son Charles A. Young and dau. Sylvia and her spouse Larry Farrell. He has 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Viewing will be held between 6-8 PM on Sunday June 28th at A. L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary at 710 W. Bethany Home Road. Memorial Church service will be held on Monday morning June 29th at 10 AM at St. Simon mand Jude Catholic Church, to be followed by the burial at St Francis Cemetery.
