December 27, 1936 – November 6, 2022
Gertrude Evalyn Wright was born on December 27th, 1936 in Dallas Texas. She was the fourth child of seven born to Blesi and Aleta (Blue) Wright. Gertrude passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2022. Gertrude was the last surviving member of her immediate family upon her passing to God’s Kingdom.
Gertrude married her beloved husband of 67 years on August 6th, 1955, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Kansasville, Wisconsin.
Gertrude was a homemaker for many years, it wasn’t until moving to Arizona in 1976 and raising all of her children that she went to work for Target retail stores in Phoenix. She loved it there! She really enjoyed the job and loved interacting with the customers. She worked in the jewelry department until her retirement in2007.
Gertrude has always been known as "Mom" to her children raising them all to adulthood. Being a stay at home mom always made her accessible to them for the care, nurturing and discipline needed for them to grow into the adults they have become. She loved her children equally, but her bond with each of them was unique. She was always genuinely interested in how your day went and made a point of checking in with her children often keeping up with each of her their lives passing along that information to the others by phone or mail to keep them all in the loop. Nothing was more important to her than making sure her family was safe where ever they were.
Gertrude never obtained a drivers license as she did not seem to want to drive a vehicle on the open road. Word has it that at one point in her young life while learning to drive she apparently managed to put the vehicle squarely between two trees in close proximity of one another. It seemed to her at that point she couldn't do any better so there was no need for her to prove herself on the open road.
Gertrude was very creative, in her younger years she did a lot of sewing making many of the outfits her children wore. In her later years she would create projects from plastic canvas. It seemed like the sky was the limit as she would make magnets, coasters, tissue boxes, book covers, book marks and many other beautiful items.
Gertrude loved shopping at Target and seeing as she worked for them for twenty years she always preferred to shop at the location she had worked. She often stopped in to say hi to those she knew were still there. Gertrude loved social interaction and with her husband was a member of TOPS ( Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She was a very active member holding different titles such as weight recorder and secretary within the group. Also with her husband Herbert, she was an Eucharistic minister for years in her church and was involved in Worldwide Marriage encounter which only strengthened their love for each other and their family.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her 3 brothers Richard, Herbie, and Bobby, her 3 sisters Peggy, Gerry, and Evie, her loving husband Herbert, and two grandchildren Amber and James. She is survived by her eight children, David Hinds (Judy) of Great Falls, MT, Stephen Hinds (Diane) of Phoenix, AZ, Deborah Rasmussen (Scott) of Clarkdale, AZ, Ronald Hinds (Marilyn) of Claremore, OK, Timothy Hinds (Terri) of Columbia, TN, Susan Hinds of Phoenix, AZ, Brenda Campagna (Mark) of Phoenix, AZ, and Luella Trudell (Frank) of Golden City, MO. Along with 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends that will miss her greatly! A celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date.
