

Helen Zundel passed away peacefully on 20 May 2010, just before her 88th birthday. Helen, known to her family as “Jimmie” was the next to last of 12 children. She was born on May 23, 1922 in Prescott, Arizona to Thomas E. and Leola J. Harris, some of the original settlers of the state.
She was a life-long active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a secretary in the Young Women’s organization, taught classes in Primary, M.I.A. (Young Women’s) and Relief Society, and was a visiting teacher.
She graduated from Prescott High School in 1940 then worked for J.C. Penny’s as a sales clerk and as a cashier. She next worked for the War Manpower Commission as a clerk-typist. She later worked for the Phoenix Public Library and the Valley National Bank.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Leola and nine of her siblings. She is survived by her husband Don Zundel to whom she has been married for nearly 65 years; sisters Nell Hansom and Mary King; son David (wife Linda) of Westport, Washington; son Norman (wife Donita) of Elkridge, Maryland; daughter Kathryn (husband Earl Henrie) and son Jacob of Phoenix, Arizona; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Helen is loved and missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, 6 June from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. Funeral services will be on 7 June 2010 at 10:00 am with a viewing at 9:00 at the Central Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 47 E Ashland Ave, Phoenix, AZ. Interment will be in the Mesa Cemetery, 1212 North Center Street, Mesa, AZ.
