Herald Edwin Paetow, age 73, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Hospice of the Valley at Ryan House. He was born to Herald John and Geraldine Eleanor Paetow in Detroit, Michigan, on June 19th, 1950.
At eighteen, Herald joined the United States Army and completed his tour of duty Vietnam War, becoming a decorated Army Medic. Herald received the Expert Combat Medic Badge and was the first in his unit to receive this honor in 37 years. He proudly and therapeutically recounted his experience in his novel, published in 2021.
Herald continued serving his community as a Senior X-ray Technologist in a hospital setting once he settled down in the Phoenix area. His true joy was found in helping his fellow veterans through various volunteering opportunities. He was best known for his uplifting and humorous personality, and his outlandish stories no one’s quite convinced are true.
Herald is survived by his beautiful wife, Terry Paetow, whom he was united in marriage to on April 23, 2005, as well as his children; Larissa Simpson (Shane), Tracey Canole (Quinn), William Fike, and Lauren Fahey. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren he adored.
Services will be held at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, date and time to be determined.
