

Jack Leon Bayer, 95, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 2, 1930, in Ogden, Utah, Jack was the son of a mining engineer and grew up in mining camps across the Southwest, fostering his resilient and creative spirit.
A graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in mechanical engineering, Jack had a remarkable career at Sandia National Laboratories and Rocket Power. There, he developed technologies to sustain, modernize, and protect the nuclear arsenal, alongside designs for military ejection seats and explosive bolts, including those used on the Apollo lunar landers. In 1964, he founded Bayer Industries, where he created the ACROLOC, a pioneering machining center that transformed machining and laid the foundation for modern manufacturing. Holding 11 US patents, Jack’s innovation continued until his final days.
Jack’s humor, warmth, and devotion touched all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Scott and April, and his five grandchildren, Rachel, Andrew, Austin, Matthew, and Blake, who will forever cherish his laughter and love.
A graveside service and burial will be held at the External Service Location, located at 2300 W Van Buren St, Phoenix, AZ, 85009, on August 8, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
A Celebration of Life will be held at his house, 5150 N 24th Street, Phoenix, Arizona, on August 9, at 1:00 pm.
