Surrounded by his family, James Doyle Coley passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the age of 79 at his home in New River. Jim was born in Lindsay, California on April 19th, 1944, to Clarence and Dorothy Coley. Growing up, Jim was very active in sports and held several pole vault records in High School. Jim was also an avid water skier doing many stunts on 1 ski.
Jim was drafted into the Army in May 1965. During Basic Training at Fort Ord, he maxed the physical fitness test and was awarded by the Governor of California. After basic training Jim was sent to Korea where he served as a lineman, helping to rebuild the county's infrastructure after the end of the war.
Jim logged many miles throughout the country and state as a truck driver for over 50 years. During the early 70's Jim also tried his hand at bareback riding. While on the road in 1977, Jim met and fell in love with Beverly. After marrying in 1978, they moved to New River where they shared 45 years full of love and adventure.
Jim was well know in the community of New River for his dedication to community service, especially pertaining to children. From helping to support local Gymkhanas to working with other local residents to build baseball fields at New River Kiwanis Park, helping others was in his nature. Jim also loved to organize poker rides to support local charities and was a member of the New River Jaycees.
Jim was also a very avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing and camping. Jim "short-cut Coley" was well known for his trail boss skills. He would coordinate week long trail rides throughout the state. These "adventures" were very special times for all, where strong friendships were bonded and many life lessons were learned.
Jim is survived by his wife Beverly; brother Rick (Astrid); children Erika (Rich), Lavena, Cindy and Jeff (Brandee); Eight grandchildren; Five great-grandchildren and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents Clarence and Dorothy, as well as his grandson Mat.
Jim was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He was always available for those who needed help and performed many acts of kindness. Jim had a heart of gold and will be missed and loved by all.
