Julie Willekens, 51, died August 31, 2011. Julie’s career took her from teaching in Phoenix elementary schools to serving as faculty for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in their GED and college programs and was a trained hostage negotiator. She was a cancer survivor for over 12 years and fearlessly fought all battles with the same grace, humor and strength. She is survived by her father Rene Willekens, brothers Michael and Rene’, sister Deborah King and her six nieces and nephews who always looked to her as their second mom. If you wanted to keep pace with Julie you had to be willing to follow her as she parachuted from planes, explored caverns, rocked climbed, rode horses or placed her bets in Vegas. If you wanted to have fun, then you tried to follow. We will miss you. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. at A. L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary 710 W. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix. almoore-grimshaw.com
