My sister and I were born in this beautiful desert, Tucson, just 2 years apart. We were raised in Phoenix and went to school here. We attended Encanto School, Osborne School and West Phoenix High School. Many times during the summer we would go to Grandy and Grandma’s ranch in Bard, California and while there visit with our Aunt Lois and Uncle Edwin and their kids Gary and Patti in Yuma. We had many family picnics by the Colorado River. During summers in Phoenix we went to Encanto Park and while there we enjoyed the Olympic sized swimming pool, and the free Carnation ice cream.
She was named after our mother, Katherine Louise Hovatter. Mom was so dear to our hearts and we were always grateful for her presence on our lives. We were the children Katherine Hovatter and Harold Moffatt. A little sadness falls into every life and in ours it was the absence of our father. Our mother remarried and we had a wonderful Daddy who adopted us and our name was changed from Moffatt to Moss.
She was a beautiful little blonde child. She had such a sweet nature. She grew to be a beautiful woman who was generous, loving and kind. She loved her family dearly. Her two sons, Rick and Mike, were her pride and joy. She loved family gatherings and hosted many herself.
She loved the peace, quiet and coolness of the mountains and had a second home outside of Flagstaff in Munds Park. Our daughter, Annie, had the good fortune to spend summertime fun with her much loved Aunty Kay up in the mountains.
She loved going on family trips to Mexico and took me, my daughter, her sons and our Grandma with her. We went fishing, walked along the beach and ate wonderful jumbo shrimp and seafood dinners.
She had a fun loving personality and became a successful business woman working in banking. She started at Valley National Bank in 1958 and stayed with banking until her retirement in 1998 as a bank Vice President (40 years).
She loved music and the joy it brought to her soul. She loved her Catholic faith. She loved to travel. She and good friend, Marianne, had some wonderful European adventures. She took good care of our grandmother in Grandmas’ later years. She, Grandma and Aunt Carlotta went on several cruises and had a ball. She loved her grandchildren and was fortunate to live to have a great grandson. She was always wonderful to me and my family and friends and was loved dearly by her grand nieces, Ava and Emilie. She was an elegant, kind, loving, wonderful good person.
I, her sister, Edie, was so proud of her; I will always love and remember my precious sister Kay.
Our loss is heaven’s gain.
