Our cousin, Kermit, was already a teen-ager when I was born, but he never exhibited a teen-ager 'attitude' toward me or my younger sister.  He was attentive, kind and loving to his extended family.  When I was 11, he bought me a red transistor radio for Christmas 🎄. My parents and I were so surprised. We were not following the developmentsI being made in technology, as he was.  A radio I could carry, that didn't need to be plugged in! Wow!  I greatly appreciated that gift and kept the red radio for years, long after it had quit working - because it was a token of his love. I always admired him!

I’m grateful to have known Kermit for 18 years!  Visiting a ‘new’ church is always an ‘experiment’.  From my very first time to attend, both Kermit, and Marilyn, made me feel very welcome, so much so, that I promptly ended my ‘church visiting campaign’. 
Their leadership was always consistent, and their service to Longview Community Church was exemplary!
Kermit was always there, keeping a keen eye on making sure everything was as it should be for Sunday Services; from making coffee every Sunday, to making sure the air conditioning or heating was at the perfect temperature, to being quietly seated just inside the entrance to the Sanctuary, ready to greet everyone who entered, to diligently taking care of the Offerings received.  To say that he was a BLESSING to this unique congregation is an understatement.  Multiple Pastors would certainly echo this sentiment!  
Chris joins me in these comments.  Although Chris infrequently attended services at Longview (his hearing loss makes in-person church attendance uncomfortable), the highlight of ‘Christian Fellowship’ was always getting to chat with Kerm.  As with everyone, Kerm was always welcoming and non-judgmental and always made time for he and Chris to chat.  
Marilyn speaks of how well Kermit took care of her; Kermit devoted so much time and energy to take care of everyone!!  The example he set will live on in the memories of many!!
On this Thanksgiving Day, 2021, we warmly give thanks that we had the opportunity to know Kermit Hoffs.


A fun evening celebrating the Chinese New Year with 2 of Jack's favorite family.      We enjoyed many a good evenings visiting with cousin Marilyn and Kermit.   A good man, indeed!    

MY UNCLE KERM WAS A LOVELY MAN, WHO LIVED HIS LIFE WELL IN SERVICE TO GOD, HIS FAMILY AND OTHERS.  MY FIRST RECOLLECTION OF HIM WAS THROUGH THE BEAUTIFUL COUPLE HE AND MARILYN MADE ON THEIR WEDDING DAY.  UNCLE KERM WAS ALWAYS VERY KIND TO ME, AND SHOWED A KEEN INTEREST IN WHATEVER I WAS DOING.  OUR DAUGHTER LINDSEY LEARNED TO CRAWL ON THEIR LIVING ROOM FLOOR ON OUR FIRST VISIT TO THEIR HOME AND I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW DELIGHTED HE WAS.  
"GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED, A CURE WAS NOT TO BE, SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND WHISPERED "COME WITH ME".  WITH TEARFUL EYES WE WATCHED YOU, AND SAW YOU FADE AWAY, ALTHOUGH WE LOVED YOU DEARLY, YOU SIMPLY COULDN'T STAY.  A GOLDEN HEART STOPPED BEATING, YOUR TENDER HANDS AT REST, GOD TOOK YOU HOME TO PROVE TO US - HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST".
