Lanny Dale Neese was born January 15, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri to Henry Dale Neese and Sarah Louise (Honaker) Neese. To this union was born three children, Lanny and his sisters Sharon and Jeanie.
He was united in marriage to Sherry Stephens in Chadron, Nebraska on July 24, 1966.
Lanny filled many roles in his life.
He was faithful husband, loving father and brother.
He was a successful wrestling coach, leading teams to several Nebraska state championships. He had a way of bonding with his athletes and motivating them to accomplishments beyond their natural abilities. He was not a natural athlete himself but knew how to motivate and teach the fundamentals and bring forth hidden talents in his athletes. He took on the task of being a wrestling coach without ever having participated in the sport. It was all about a work ethic and determination.
He was a classroom math teacher, always finding a unique and creative and sometimes unorthodox way to connect with his students to encourage them in their studies.
He was a leader in integrity in the financial services industry which is not known for a shiny reputation, never commission driven but always doing what he deemed best for his client. His clients were more than that; they were friends.
His greatest joy outside his family was serving his Lord and Savior on the mission field, first in Romania and then to Central America, particularly Honduras, leading teams for 20+ years sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He hiked the mountains of Honduras, reaching precious souls with the Good News. He never thought of himself in that way, but he was an evangelist at heart.
He never knew a stranger and was always concerned about the eternal destiny of each person he met. Rarely did a seatmate on an airplane land without hearing the Good News presented in a loving and gracious way. Lanny touched many people and could truly be called a “people person”. Whether it was a clerk in Walmart or standing in line at the pharmacy he rarely missed an opportunity to share Christ. He simply shared what the Bible says and in such a heartfelt way that even those who did not agree sensed he shared from a genuine faith and not to be pushy or preachy. He had a gift that made him an instant friend.
Left to mourn and yet rejoice at his homegoing include his wife of 55 years, Sherry, his children, Angela Neese and Miles (Tammy) Neese of the Phoenix area. Four grandchildren, Caleb and Kyra Neese and Marissa and Noah McElroy. His sisters, Sharon (Dewayne) Witt of Colorado Springs, and Jeanie (Warren) Sedivy of Pawnee City, Nebraska. Nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
