

Larry Lee Powell, known as “Buc” went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2014 at the age of 66 with his family by his side. Larry was born in Miami, Arizona in 1947 to Cloteen Louise (Grandma Boots) and Arvel Lee Powell (Curley). Larry served our country in 1967 in Vietnam and is a retired Fire Captain of 36 years from the Phoenix Fire Department. Larry lived the “Cowboy Way” with his kind and gentle soul; Larry left a legacy through his loving and generous heart with anyone who has ever met him. Larry was an amazing musician who performed with his band Shilow in numerous venues in Arizona and California. He also played with Tiller & Friends, an all firemen band, who taught kids about fire and safety. Larry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his yearly fishing trips with his son, fellow firemen, and friends. Larry’s passion was being a generous host and his gift was always being the life of the party. Larry completely adored his beautiful wife Suzy, she was Larry’s angel and he was her hero. This incredible man will be greatly missed by all. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Suzy Powell, children Laura Kunka Swingle and Ryan Powell, 14 grandchildren, brothers Ronnie Powell, Gary Wayne Powell, and Joe Ed Powell, sisters Delores Wheeler, and Linda K Bacon. Beardsley Road Phoenix, AZ 85027, Services will be held Wednesday, May 7th 1:00pm. Reception to follow Mountain Preserve Reception Center, 1431 E. Dunlap Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85020.
