Lorraine K. Lyells

The morning of June 19, 2015 Lorraine passed away peacefully of natural causes. Lorraine was being visited and cared for by her daughter Barbara, and son Jim, at the Brookdale Assisted Care facility in Scottsdale, Arizona at the time of her passing. Lorraine was 89 years of age. Lorraine Lyells was born Lorraine Katherine Miller in the town of Dresden, Kansas on April 17, 1926. She was the third of eight children, of Christine Bernadine, and Edward John Miller. Lorraine was raised on a family owned farm in Northwestern Kansas. She eventually found herself in Denver, Colorado attending The Saint Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan, Kansas to pursue and complete her nursing degree in August, 1947. Early in her career as a nurse she met and soon married her husband Howard Lyells. She left nursing to begin raising a young family in Denver. A job related opportunity for Howard had the family moving to Phoenix in 1955, where they established their home and raised their 5 children. Lorraine is survived by her 5 children Ronald, Robert, Barbara, Paul, and James. Her brother Edward, and her sisters Geraldine and Janice. A rosary and visitation will be held at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary 710 West Bethany Home Road in Phoenix on Tuesday June 23rd 6 - 8 pm. A service will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church 4715 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, June 24th at 10:00 AM.
