Maria Elena Contreras

Maria Elena Contreras of Phoenix, AZ passed away on Friday, May 16th, 2025 at the age of 74. She was born Maria Elena Barraza on March 31st, 1951 in Teonadepa, Sonora, Mexico to her parents, Mariano & Laura Barraza. When she was 12 years old they immigrated to the United States, and lived for a time in Texas. They later settled in Douglas, AZ where Maria attended high school and began working.

She met and fell in love with Pablo E. Contreras and were married on November 10th, 1973. They moved to Tucson, AZ where they pastored a small church, and after their first child was born they decided to return to Douglas, where their second son was born.

In 1988 they accepted a pastoral position in Glendale, AZ and served there until 1991 when they decided to start a new church called “Centro Familiar Cristiano” (Christian Family Center). They pastored until 2017 where they decided to retire when Pablo celebrated his 50th anniversary in full-time ministry.

Laura, Maria’s mother, passed away in 2000. Mariano, her father, passed away in 2019. And, Pablo passed away in February of 2021. She is survived by her two sons, Pablo Misael and Joel Hiram, two daughters in law, 4 grandchildren, and her only brother, Samuel.

There will be a viewing and a memorial service on Friday, June 6th, 2025 at Church For The Nations, 6225 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012.

Visitation and Viewing: 6:00pm

Memorial Service: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Saturday, June 7th, at 10:00am we will be having a small service at the Serenity Chapel of

Greenwood Memorial Lawn

Phoenix, AZ 85009

From there we will be heading to a graveside service at from 11:00-11:30am.

María Elena Contreras de Phoenix, AZ falleció el Viernes, 16 de Mayo a la edad de 74 años. Ella nació María Elena Barraza el 31 de Marzo de 1951 en Teonadepa, Sonora, México a sus padres Mariano y Laura Barraza. Cuando ella tenia 12 años de edad la familia emigro a los Estados Unidos, y vivieron un tiempo en Texas. Después se establecieron en Douglas, AZ donde María Elena asistió a la secundaria y la preparatoria, y comenzó a trabajar.

Ella conoció y se enamoró de Pablo E. Contreras y unieron sus vidas en matrimonio el 10 de Noviembre de 1973. Se fueron a vivir a Tucson, AZ donde pastorearon una pequeña iglesia, y después de haber nacido su primer hijo decidieron regresarse a Douglas, donde nacería su Segundo hijo.

En 1988 aceptaron una posición pastoral en Glendale, AZ y sirvieron ahí hasta 1991 cuando decidieron comenzar una iglesia nueva llamada “Centro Familiar Cristiano”. Ahí pastorearon hasta 2017 cuando decidieron jubilarse cuando Pablo celebraba su 50 aniversario de ministerio de tiempo complete.

Laura, madre de María Elena, falleció en el 2000. Mariano, su padre, falleció en 2019. Y, Pablo falleció en Febrero de 2021. La sobreviven sus dos hijos, Pablo Misael y Joel Hiram, dos nueras, 4 nietos, y su único hermano, Samuel.

Habrá un tiempo de visitación y un servicio memorial el Viernes, 6 de Junio, empezando a las 6:00pm en Church For The Nations, 6225 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012.

Visitación: 6:00pm

Servicio Memorial: 7:00pm-9:00pm

El Sábado, 7 de Junio, nos estaremos reuniendo a las 10:00am en la capilla “Serenity” de:
